Hey everyone, this is just a quick release that was a nice little 30 minute project I did this afternoon.I made it because I got increasingly annoyed when I kept closing down listen.grooveshark.com accidentally as I closed my browser - thus stopping my music playback.

For those who don't know, grooveshark is a music listening and discovery program made in flex... and is incredible. The interface is based greatly on apple's designs (including some nifty animations) and makes the experience great.

I must point out I did not make the grooveshark original application, I just ported it so it can be ran on its own, as a desktop application. I find it handy as it makes life that little less irratating (so you don't have to worry about accidently closing the tab ^_^).

And the app itself, running.

(required adobe air, get it @ adobe.com)

If you get any warnings (such as unknown publisher) during installation, don't worry as I can assure you its safe.

Feedback pl0x.

Glad you all like, im going to be making a more advanced version which will grab callbacks from the flash file (basically means I should be able to integrate it into socialsigr for release). I might also make it support multiple webapps, like last.fm or something (although they already have one they made).

It would be nice if it could pipe all the recently listened to songs to SocialSigr.

Caleb said he has been discussing a few ways of integrating SocialSigr with Grooveshark, as they do aggragate all the listening information.. and it should be coming up soon on the user profiles.

Well it depends on when you last installed it, as there has been a few updates recently - which the installer needs. I guess it could be an extension problem with your OS for w/e reason :S

There is no ZIP archive.. where did you get that link?

When I click on the link to d/l, it only wants to d/l it as a .ZIP not .AIR?
EDIT: And yes, I have adobe air already..

Sometimes zip applications attach .air as a file extension, just right click and run it in the air.installerpackage.

Hope that helps.

Well it seems your computer is messed up.. because it is not a ZIP file..

Here is a mirrored version in RAR format, so just extract it.. it then should run as an AIR formated package..

It's not letting me do that / showing me any option to do that.
Any help?

^ thats the correct link

Are you sure you have air installed? Best bet is to install it again (air), and try again.

Download it here: http://www.tehupload.com/mirror/Groove.rar

Then extract it, and see if it appears to be an AIR package. Should look like this:

Listening to music on it now :)
I haven't really used grooveshark much, so I don't know whether or not this was really necessary, but it's still good :)
It would be better if you could just like, hide it. Then double click the icon over to the right* of the taskbar to show it again.

*Can't remember what that area's called.

Nope. They do not.

They don't as they are not hosting the music, it is merely found using different sources on the web. I was talking to caleb about it earlier and he thinks its the same as the myspace players (3rd party ones).

edit // trinity - I am re-making the app with added features such as mini-player mode and also minimize to system tray (or dock on mac).

i double click to open and then it says do not recognise file format pick a program. Any ideas, ive googled how to open a .air file but nothing

Well your problem lies within Adobe Air then, I suggested re-install adobe air then try again. You can also download the .rar format caleb mirrored to see if thats any different.

Update coming shortly, just adding some listener events to the systemtray icon.

Source, I can't wait for the mini version, I hope it comes soon, as it is quite annoying when it stays in the taskbar, I think it will be much better when it minimizes to the system tray.

Here's a 1.1 update

Click here to re-download. (http://www.source-movies.com/test/groove.air)

I have added listeners for closing and minimizing - it now goes to the system tray, to re-open or exit just right click on the red icon in the tasktray. Note how there are known bugs for maximising the window, it just closes it to systemtray, I will fix that at a later date.

I will add events for double clicking the icon later on, aswel as build in an update manager.

Not to be a pain, and I love the application, but it seems to be eating alot of my poor 512mb memory. Anychance of you looking over the source to see what part could be using all of that memory, as I don't have alot.

Doritos

It's not the application, it's more or less the main.swf compiled with the application.

The Grooveshark interface takes up a lot of memory on it's own, hence why browsers seem to "lag" while navigating it.

It's really on Grooveshark's side, not much anyone can do :P

Trinity

Is it just me, or does it disappear when you click maximise?
And make it so double-clicking the icon opens it, quicker than right clicking then clicking on open.
