Well on ebay we brought the first gen 16gb for £169..
But on the description it said Gen2 software installed which cost him £12..

What would the gen 2 software being installed on it give me?

It would help by saying iPod Touch/iPhone instead of just iPod. Plus 1.0 and 2.0/2.1/2.2 instead of 'Gen'.

Anyways, it adds user-created apps, and the app store, the main reason I bought the iPod Touch, for gaming. Plus, I'm sure its £10 not £12?

Its perfectly fine, its meant to have the latest software.. but 2.0 doesn't cost any money.

You can download it everywhere. If you have then Shift+Click on Restore in iTunes, and easily update it...

Basically gives you the App Store, Genius, plus a few minor tweaks to other things (bigger font for album titles, for example).

Jailbreaking is good, you get more apps, can install the AppStore paid apps for free, can install themes etc etc

But what's the point in screwing the hard working developers over just to save a couple of quid. Some people develop apps as their day job, and you're just stealing them. :S

I find that hard to believe... and plus, do you really need 8 pages of apps? If you do, that's fine, but IMO you should buy apps which you use regularly, and those which you do not, don't download at all...

Okay, say £2.99 per app, 16 Apps * 8 Pages = 128

So 128*2.99 = £382.72

Im not going to pay that much for some iPod Apps.

That's nothign to do with what I was talking about, and plus, you know most apps are free or 59p or something. There are few 2.99+ apps.

Thats still at least £80

Why do you need 128 apps? There can't be 128 paid apps you need and use all the time..
