Its just a very pesky one, whenever i search something in google instead of going to the link i clicked it redirects through a couple of advertising sites onto another page, i'm sure its probably worse than that but thats what i've seen of it so far and if someone can't help me get rid of it i think i'm gonna go mental!

I'm sure its something easy to fix but so far system restore hasn't worked or anything, i'm not even sure how it got there..

Big +rep for the posts that help!

Haha, its most probs adware.
Only way to get rid of is wipe your drives or find a remover that actually works.

Norton sucks but o well.

Unlike typical pop-ups (stopped with available blockers) 3rd party cookies are entirely different critters. When PC's (personal confusers) misbehave, like pop-up's, going to unrequested sites, goofy warnings, etc.; one step to help reduce annoying pop-ups & unrequested websites from being displayed on your machine is to turn off 3rd party cookies, and always leave them off.

INTERNET EXPLORER: Tools> Internet Options> Privacy> Advanced: here check 'Override automatic....'; 'Allow session cookies'; 'Allow 1st party cookies'; & 'Block 3rd Party Cookies'.

FIREFOX: Tools> Options> Privacy: here UN-CHECK 'Accept 3rd Party cookies'

OPERA, et al: not sure, check under 'options' for this.

Because architecture of the Internet (notably 'Flash' scripting), vulnerabilities are readily exploited in Internet Explorer, & it is now urgent that you use Firefox WITH the 'NoScript' add-on, which will prevent "Click-jacking'.
NoScript: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox... (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/722)

For a somewhat detailed (but not overly tekky) explanation of all these 'Click-jacking' effects (and they are scary!) go to
http://www.grc.com/securitynow.htm
episode 168.

Then, you'll have to ERADICATE MALWARE with Spybot, Ad Aware, and all available trusted cleaners & Anti-virus software, and suggested
TOOLS FOR SPECIFIC INFECTIONS listed from other posts in this forum.

Note: some current 'rouge' malware will undo this change, so you might have to redo this step after malware has been eliminated.

Search and destory

Search that on google and download.

Scan and clean.

Norton is a really bad buy, it slows down your computer dramaticly and dosnt have very good detection rates

Go into bios and get into safety.
If you can re-install windows and wipe your HD's

i hate re-installing vista, i did it about a month ago and it is very very annoying cos you lose everything from settings to gameplay stats. you can only keep the files you backup and everything has to be re-installed. (Not to mention the 100s of updates)

I'm still waiting for ad aware to do a full scan and if that doesn't work i'll try some other things.

*>

Thanks! You guys are real life savers! The ad aware worked and the malware has been quarantined. Shame it doesn't delete the files but just encrypts them.
Anyway problem fixed and hopefully its fully fixed..

Thanks again!:eusa_danc

try a scan with spybot s&d first, be sure to update it before you do so, though.

http://www.spybot.com/en/mirrors/index.html

you can also try a-squared free
http://download4.emsisoft.com/a2FreeSetup.exe

or AVG free

Try browsing in different browsers. If it only affects one browser, then it's likely that it's been injected into that browser.

Get into startup config (start and type in the search bar: msconfig and hit enter). Then click the Startup tab. Widen up the "Command" column and look through the list. If you see any exe files opening that you don't know, untick them (google them first if you can (eg. google: whuhdfsg.exe), as that will tell you if they are a common windows process or something to worry about eg. spyware). Save it (press ok) and restart. You can always do the same thing but with the list of processes in task manager.

I find this is the best way to find viruses like this. Trend-Micro Internet Security (costs), combined with ad-aware and my technique of going through task manager and msconfig etc. has kept me safe for years.

I would not recommend Norton/McAffee, both have been found out and sued for creating fake viruses that only they find to make them look like better virus protection.

It affects all the browsers i have and not only google, all of the search engines i use.
Ad aware and spybot both find the virus but they are useless at removing it. Both of them claim to fix it with a big green tick but its still exactly the same as it was before.

I've done just about everything now. Ad aware finds the problem in safe mode but if i click quarantine it does nout and if i click remove it flashes a deleting message very quickly but it just appears again.

If you want, as a last resort i could connect to you via teamviewer, and try to repair it for you.

If you can find the file that is infected and unabled to be quarantined/deleted, you can manually remove that file from your hard drive without booting the computer normally (or in safe-mode) so that the virus can't be running and nothing can stop you from removing it. You might need another computer to do this.

By the looks of it, you have to reinstall/format. It sounds like it's infected core files and it's not an ordinary little spyware virus. I suggest you backup all your files, try and find setup files to software you have installed, back everything up but not your registry or your system files, reformat, copy all your documents and setup files back on and start reinstalling your software etc..

I've had to do that once, extremely irritating but in some cases, the fastest and best way to get rid of it.

If you know the location of the vuris (exe), than its just a case of removing it.
See if this works, I'm not 100% sure if it works on Vista, If it doesn't, than reply and I'll try to provide more help.

1. this is free software therefore if it doesnt remove it it may want you to buy the full version to remove it, therefore it may be non existant virus.

2. download AVG type AVG in the search at www.download.com (http://www.download.com) that will catch it, or search Spybot and download - both of these WILL find it and remove it i think

Yeah you should just stop downloading freeporn.exe that would solve most of your problems.
