What are the benefits of data types in vb.net

i need help on my assignment and i cbf to find a better forum suitable than this :( so help answer the question cheers ;)

Boolean - True or false
Decimal - decimal number
DateTime - date and time
Char - 16bit char?
integer - can hold a whole number, can't remember the limt.
theres also like byte & single.


edit: didn't really answer your question. well basically one of the benefits of data types it can hold different kind of data.
