Can you use your available money on paypal to buy things online?

You know on paypal when it says in the box available balance before you have transferred the money to your account. Instead of transferring it your bank account can you just use the available balance if you get what I mean:S

But when you need to pay more than your balance, your debit card or w.e you are paying with will be charged the remainder :)
