View Full Version : Designer Market
Ok this was an idea cooked up by me and kinda in discussion with lucas ;) :P
Its a place to buy and sell both designs and logos. It will provide you with a personal space ie, user.designermarket.com where you can customise it so its similar to an online portfolio. You may offer designs for free or sell them at a price that you want.
The uniqueness that this will bring is that you are able to rate other peoples designs giving people an incentive to get better and also so the buyers browsing the site are able to identify which designs people like. Comments and hearts are what will make it a community. The cross and tick identify whether it is of a good nature and the heart is if it stands out to you.
Of course, this is still in a development stage as in its just got the front page [:P] and am looking for PROFESSIONAL people to help me. I am able to do the design work necessary and a bit of the CSS + HTML but im more interested in the designing and ideas. If anyone can help i will be grateful and it will be a joint venture. Splitting costs and profits if it gets off the ground.

If you couldnt be bothered to read all of that, here are the two designs. The second is when the pictures change. Rate and give criticisms on them.

Very very nice but a little to wide for my screen. Great work though!
If you mean you can't get the whole image on it doesn't matter, if you mean you can't it on as in the actual design then oh well lol. Which one is it?
And thanks :)

I can't see it from side to side, and if I center the content, I can see most of it.
I just made it wide so people would know what would go to the edges of the browser. It would stretch 100%.
:)
Another awesome idea!

It's a great idea, and the site looks very professional. It might be a nice idea to include free layouts also, to generate interest in the site.
Lol jack :)
And yeh, the site you designed looks great, as always :)

When this comes to a good end, it's more then likely i'll sign up.

Its not bad - but I don't particularly like the layout at certain points.
I do like the idea (as I liked Oli's) so I wish you the best of luck :)

Which colour would you prefer to see?

The idea for me to get users to sign in was the moment they sign up they get a chance to download a free layout from a selection so they can choose one that they want. Read the bottom right hand box for details :)

Thanks for the feedback, which parts dont you like imparticular? Im not particularly keen on the footer atm. I just thhink it needs more mud and less grass with maybe a horizon and sun/clouds.
Thanks for all your opinions.
Ill try code the front page sometime soon so you can see a live version of it

Well I wouldn't mind helping out with this project.
I just don't have time to create such a project all by myself so I've kinda given up on webauxtions.
But I'd be willing to help out on yours if you want that ofcourse.

That would be great.
Another idea i have had is that the colour would be changeable once you have logged in and it also changes the footer. Ive included another design witha teal/blue colour and the bottom is a bit crap but gets the idea across lol

Very nice, 8/10. That fitted quite nice, I have a 22" :)
Hmmm, sounds like an interesting idea and I was going to do something along the same lines but a much more simpler format to suit designers rather than customers. However you're doing it the other way around which could be a good or bad thing I don't know.
The design doesn't seem like the sort of thing you'd find on template sites, it's very average in terms of techniques and skills. Websites like FaveUp seem to have mastered the style and I would find myself using a site if it was similar to FaveUp.

Thanks for the feedback for both the design and idea.
It would tend to be split half and half between both designers and customers. The rating system works by them being able to sort through the designs that have been hearted most which in effect means the ones that people like the most. However, each 'portfolio' with show all the designs they have on sale and for free with purchase buttons and downloads. Once purchased, you can either remove it or put a sold picture up.
Its not exactly a template site. Its to sell designs but ive tried to orientate the design to fit its purpose which is to give buyers the easiest way to view designs, which is done by that being the first thing they see.
The FaveUp site, imo, looks good but plain and a bit random. The navigation in the middle with the content to the far left. Its also a bit too dark. I see where you are coming from but with the design i have made, i would expect to see a lot of changes along the development and each page will have a different look to it so it should turn out alright.
Thanks though :)

You already know I like the design Josh :) If the site takes off you could have a premium service which allows a certain ammount of layouts to be uploaded.
and then you pay for more. I have thought about that but i think the main attraction and selling point would be that its free for designers to upload to encourage a community

I reckon you should think about this after your website is popular. If you do this beforehand, it has less chance of succeeding.

DeviantArt allows you to sell your work and doesn't stop how many images/deviants you upload... maybe because they think the more images you upload the more page views equalling the more advertisements hit.
You're going to have to research your market in my opinion but I do however love the design and I think the site awfy "FaveUp" looks totally boring.
I think the method of viewing the top rated/features/etc should have arrows to scroll through them ;) and I think there is abit too much green if i keep looking at the layout it starts to make me sick.

yeh, im not so keen on the idea of charging. ill have a think about it. Ok lets see, how many people on here have designs that are just sitting on their computer, unsold? I know i have loads to sell but no where to sell them :(. tbh, i am the market im aiming for so i pretty much know what people would want.
As for the arrows, theyre only previews, you would click designs and then click the categories and sort methods etc. What sort of colour do you think would be good?
