Just got told by my doctor that I have to go for it... I'm a little nervous as this is my first surgery.
Has anyone here ever had hernia surgery / what is it like if you have?
FYI: I put this in Discuss Anything because it's not Health Tips or Advice, it's a discussion about surgery and what it entails.

My Dad had a hernia surgery and he couldn't really lift anything heavy for a few months. He said it didn't hurt that much but it hurt him if he walked for a while.

Yeah dude thanks for the input. My doctor said that too, he said I'll have to stay in bed for 2-3 days and then take it easy for about a month.

Ive been told that it aint that sore getting it done as its a minor operation, the cause of a hernia is when ur acidic juices in your stomach burn away your membrane lining ur stomach and goes through it, causing a lump .. although u will defo have to take it easy for a month or two.

My Dad got his hernia by lifting weights, how about you Craig?
I had the operation when I was a baby aparently, so I'm not really sure how it affected me, I only found out about it recently, and hadnt noticed the 3 inch scar I've got until then lol.

I'm really not sure to be honest, I woke up this morning with severe pain and went to the doctor who referred me to the hospital... it basically came out of nowhere.

I got an ingunal hernia from lifting computers for about four weeks. I had the operation, which went fine, then I woke up and it was all good. I was in minor pain for about a day, and I was back at school the following week. Don't worry about it.

Aww, good luck with operation
It shouldn't hurt too much, when you wake up you'll still be a bit drowsy recovering from the gas and just take it easy for a few weeks, should heal quickly.

Thanks everyone for the advice / encouragement, I really appreciate it. My ultrasound is tomorrow to find where exactly it's located and where they have to... cut?
