I'm guessing this is simply to put a password on folders so others can't access? Sorry if I'm stating the obvious.

that is what folder lock does... you select the folders or drives you wanted passworded and voila passworded folders and drives.

I don't know a programme that allows you to add a password to your folder full of pictures of kids.
