Hiiiiiii, well I just purchased my new computer and its been built at a comp store and everything is fine etc etc but whenever I play any games (well at the moment.. just Warcraft 3 and Death or Glory) it always freezes permanently within the first 5 minutes. Mouse is frozen, can't alt-tab or alt f4 or ctrl-alt-delete. I don't have the internet on it at the moment so I couldn't possibly of downloaded anything that could be affecting it, but i'm wondering If need Direct x 10 or something to play? If not, whats the problem lol..

I'm really confused because I pretty much got the exact same computer as my friend and he's having no problems.. only thing different is that he has XP, I've got vista and that he has a different case/psu then I do.

Specs:
nvidia geforce 9800gt gxf card
amd phenom quad core 2.2mhz processor
Asus M3N78-VM AM2+ GF8200 5200MT DDR2 PCIEx16 RAID GbLAN mATX motherboard
500gb harddrive
viewsonic 22" 2ms refresh lcd monitor
thermaltake tough power 650W psu
4gb ram
vista

All help would be greatly appreciated, taa

Yeah he has the internet... and my friend hasn't updated his gfx drivers and all that stuff and his works fine. The gfx card is new anyways... why would they have to be updated? (I mean new as in both brand new and up-to-date lol)

9800gt isn't new :P its not old aswell but there is new drivers for it, drivers update all the time. When you get a disk with the gfx card the drivers are out of date, so you always update.

Tell him to disable every program he has (during startup). He might have 4GB but he might have a lot of junk.

Start > Type msconfig in the search box > Startup > Disable all (Will then restart)

I had a similar issue. Did this and it worked.

Ok, i'm ruling out anything to do with the games as now the computer is doing the exact same thing when I'm just online and whatnot... No idea whats causing it.

Download your video drivers from:

www.nvidia.com

This problem happened with me. And it fixed it.

I've already downloaded the latest driver. I'm assuming this is something to do with Vista lol

I don't have any problems with games and I'm on Vista.
