Nice to know the school would rather the teacher lie then tell the truth.

i suppose its better to have some old man teacher who feels up the children with the promise that he is santa claus and will give them presents ;p
Pathetic reason to fire someone, she should find a less stupid school to work for, I wouldn't feed my kid rubbish like that anyway, it's just plain stupid.
I would hate for a teacher to tell me santa wasent real.

thats baddddddddddd on his behalf.
i think that parents telling kids about santa is just as worse as saying "im going out down the road" when your not your just going out to some other town to get drunk :l
its CRUEL.

oh man thats a sticky situation for the parents. either they tell the kid the truth and break his heart or lie to him and he'll get mad at them for lying to him when he finds out the truth, lol.

a job as a substitute teacher isnt the same as a regular secure job. they are only hired when needed, there's no real fixed wage or schedule for them. so its not really a firing, just a not-hiring. its like how you cant really fire a baby sitter. youre only paying her for when you call her or whatever. if mad parents were complaining, obviously they wont use that substitute teacher again, even if they think its a stupid reason.

''The agency which supplied the teacher said she was still registered and would be used again elsewhere.''
lmaoo. it's as if she's a board marker ''supplied'' & ''would be used again elsewhere''
ROFLMAO.

If I had brought my kid up to believe that Santa was real then I'd be pretty annoyed that some teacher then told them he wasn't.

You never tell alittle kid that -.- I lost faith in him at age 10. My 8 year old brother is on the verge of not believing cause a kid at his school told him so. So me and my mother said "Ok Santa doesn't get kids who don't believe a gift, so you won't get one" "Jordan you believe right ?" "Yes mum :P :P" "Well it's just your little brother who won't get one from him XD"
And I have a 3 year old brother who believes. I only pretend to believe so I don't send them off in tears. Even though me and my 8 year old brother are gunna wind up putting eachother in the hospital one day -.-

Yea in America you seem to do subs differently, all the subs in my schools worked for the school just in a different department or something, we never had someone from a company to do it, I read on a bit more of the article and saw that she was from an agency or something. :P

You've just taken the magic out of christmas for the entire forum, thanks =P
But seriously, I wouldn't be too happy if my child was reduced to tears from a teacher (if i had a child).
Wouldnt telling them all Santa isnt real increase rowdyness?

Wow, fire someone for telling the truth? I understand it was wrong to tell children, but maybe they wanted to know. Who brings that up for no reason...?
To fire someone who didn't break rules at all and has a degree to teach is stupid.
I would have told them the truth too, including; Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy, etc...
Reading the posts above...
She probably works in a school district, which pays and assign her to schools. If she gets fired, it means that she isn't working at those schools anymore, but the best thing to do is apply to another district once the smoke clears.
DON'T BLAME THE TEACHER, BLAME THE PARENTS!
And I quote:
"We told him that she did not believe in Father Christmas because of her religion and he's fine now."
Lying to them more, that was their chance to tell them the truth about Santa without hurting them more, now in a few years they will get heartbroken for the same topic...
LOL EPIC own, imagen the owned look on all the kids faces when she said that

Whats worse a lie that can draw a smile or a truth that can draw a tear - a quote I stole from a movie I saw the other day :P
You only get to be a child once I think it's wrong to destroy a childs imagination.. I personally was never actually 'told' Santa wasn't real over time I just worked it out for myself at the normal age parents normally tell their kids anyway... which I think is the best way I wasn't heart broken or upset I just in a way knew don't know how to explain it really..

Good. As a teacher he (well I beleive it was a she when I heard it on the news) is meant to protect the kids innocence at all costs and not upset them. The kids were obviously distraught when they found out and they should never be put in a situation like that by a teacher - finding out Santa isn't real should just come naturally over the years and not from a bah humbug teacher at this time of year.

a truth that can draw a tear... hence why you don't tell children that the moon is made of cheese, clouds are made of candyfloss and money is free. Telling children that fairytales and lies are true is lying and taking advantage of them. You think it's okay to take advantage of children?

I think there is a difference between letting a child have an imagination and telling a child lies. There is no harm in a child thinking Santa clause is real like I said before I was always told as a young child Santa clause, the tooth fairy and the easter bunny are real and I don't feel like I was being taken advantage of in anyway :)

it's taking advantage of a fragile and inexperienced mind, thus the only people to blame are those who said that santa was real in the first place

If the parents want to tell their children that Santa Clause is real then it's their prerogative and is in no way 'taking advantage' of them. It's been a tradition for years so it's not as if the parents have purposely lied to them about Santa Clause to set them up for a fall and watch them be upset when they find out he isn't real.

Hmmm, it is a bit of a pointless reason for firing, but when you think about it, they would of found out in the future from parents. But at their age, Santa still has a few years left in them so it was a wrong time and wrong moment sort of situation :P
To solve this problem for future generations, just give your children presents in the middle of the night and don't hint towards a magical man who enters the house, just say they turned up. Or use religion and say Jesus was feeling in a good mood on his birthday. Your choice.
