Hey

My long awaited Core 2 Quad has arrived and guess what!! My PC won't start with it in, the fans will just keep spinning when a pc starts up it pumps loads of air round the pc, it's doing that. So then I checked to make sure my PSU was strong enough (me thinking its 350W) and found out it's 160W and I was really annoyed then lol.

So I have to now buy ANOTHER PSU and stick it in. can any of you recommend me a PSU for a Dell Inspiron 530.

Thanks
Chris

650W is kinda overkill really unless you plan to upgrade in the future.

the PSU is fine it sends power to all the components like HDD and DVD Drive plus all fans but the light at the front wont turn blue (on) it just stays orange.

I was about to say it would've made more sense to nick a PSU of 450W to see if it made any difference, rather than buy one.
But you've already got one...

Do your Dell Diag lights show anything is wrong when it starts up? I've had this happen.. and they can tell you quite a bit mate.

He did, and found out the Dell BIOS is on a Foxconn motherboard and that Dell have stopped him installing a quad core CPU LOL

i had this exact problem

i solved it, by unplugging everything (like PCI cards etc), unplugging prcessor power cable and fan. I took CPU out, cleaned thermal paste off (and off fan), put new thermal paste on (only the tinyest bit this time) plugged everything back in and worked :P

Man that sucks. Dell really don't like people upgrading their computers do they..

What's he going to do? Buy a new motherboard?

I tried that, still the same thing.

If I can't fix this tomorrow I'll phone up Dell Support (*Shudders*) and if they give me a load of ******** then I will moan at them then if they still won't do anything about it I will then buy a new MB and Case and migrate most of the stuff over to that and have a new PC.

Chris, if it had a Dell BIOS you should have flashed it before you upgraded.

I'm under a normal account, and have been for years.. and have always received great service from Dell.

I think one call went bad, because the stupid little operator being held against his will and forced to do technical service calls couldn't speak English.. so I just called back and got a nice American speaking guy.

I remember calling them before they enclosed Dell System Recovery disks with their PCs, and the guy said he'd be nice and dispatch a free set to us via UPS Next-Day air.

Always had great service@

I was just on to dell, they were ment to come out to fix my sisters laptop today, but no technician arrived, they were very apologetic but that means nothing to me, I then asked to speak to the supervisor and i let him know how i lost a whole day of "work" and that i should be compensated, and i will have to stay home again, he then informed me that he would send out a USB stick for my troubles, and he would make sure that they would definatly be out tomorow

Even before you start your conversation with dell, ask to speak to the supervisor, the repesentives cant do anything
