What is the model and make of your computer?

(there's different kinds of RAM, if we know your make and model we can look up what specific RAM you require).

RAM won't necessarily make your computer faster, per se.

Be slightly more specific as to how it's 'slow' currently.

My computer is..

Windows vista Home premium.
AMD athlon(tm) 64 x2 dual core processor 5500+
896 MB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430

Hopefully that helped.

My PC isnt like, really slow but it would be great if it was faster.

Upgrade to 2GB RAM, as you only have one installed, what make is your computer, is it custom build?

crucial.com check what type of memory you'll require (it'll tell you like DDR2 PC2-6400 or something along those lines) then go on ebuyer.com and see how much it costs

Upgrade to 2-4GB of RAM; Your processor seems fine, you can also upgrade that if you want to waste the money, won't make much difference.

Computers are usually slower due to software, not hardware. Consider reformatting your PC before spending some money on some more RAM.

Anything more than 2gb is really overkill. <1gb is still sufficient for me, and I game quite a bit.

However, your CPU and video card seem fine (video card probably wouldn't upgrade unless you're a gamer - but if you were, I suspect it'd be upgraded already). Your computer really shouldn't be slow as it is. Lots of RAM <> faster PC.

When's the last time you reformatted?

(edit: Oh, it looks like someone beat me to the formatting arguement, hah, pft.)

What are you doing that takes up so much RAM? I'm only using about 700MB at the moment (Internet, Skype, MSN).

I don't know instantly what FSX is, so I'm going to assume it uses the same memory as.. say.. World of Warcraft. The absolute most memory intensive application on my PC. Estimate 600mb RAM usage. Plus Firefox in at 70ish, MSN at 20, WMP at 30, Outlook at 30 (all rough estimates). That's 750mb RAM, far from 4gb. Plus your page file.

I think there could be an underlying issue with either the PC, or you.

(After googling "fsx", it only came up with Flight Simulator X. Which needs, quote, "256 RAM for XP, 512 RAM for Vista". Very, very far from 4gb.)
