My Dell Inspiron 1521 laptop's operating system Vista Home Premium crashed 5 HOURS before the warrenty expired, so I had to install Ubuntu. But I need Vista back for my school needs. So people. Should I go out and buy Vista Home Premium or Vista Ultimate?

MONEY IS NOT A PROBLEM FOR ME.

I'd say Ultimate :) I have it and it's great, although some people will differ.

If money isn't a problem, why not buy Ultimate? The point of ultimate is that it's better but costs more, so if money isn't an issue there's no reason not to buy it!

Just get the Vista disk and reinstall using the key on the bottom of the laptop, no need to do any of thatl.

I'd personally say Windows XP.
But if you really want to use Vista, get Ultimate... Not that there's any significant difference between Ulti and Home Prem... Oh, except the price. :/

LOL why are you making a big deal about the warranty. If it was five hours before then that's fine, you are still in the warranty period.

Anyhow just reinstall Windows Home Premium.

Ehm, no that’s not true :)

Yes, he still have the warranty active, and has right to use it. But Warranty normally doesn’t cover software problems. And EVEN if it is covered by the warranty, he will have to turn the computer in within 5h. Since the only thing the company cares about is what time you handed the product in and requested it as reparation in the warranty - they don't care about when the problem started.

So even if the problem was developed during the warranty timeframe, he still would need to prove that by handing it in prior to the warranty “expiration” date.

But sure, you could always hope that the company is friendly and solves the problem…

Well he mentioned his laptop crashing and the fact the warranty ended 5 hours after, so it might not of been covered for software problems, but the way he said it, it was. Why mention warranty in his post if he wasn't covered lol. I'm going but what he's told us :)

Why are you making such a big and stupid deal out of this. Home Premium was already on it, just reinstall it. Jesus Christ!

Actually it is true, if it happens on a weekend there should be 24hr lines for the problems. If they don't then you ring them as soon as they open, literally, and explain the problem. If they say no then just keep ringing and persisting (asking for managers ect.).

But most warranties don't even cover software anyway so he shouldn't of even mentioned it.
