View Full Version : Is the Ipod touch really worth it?

I mean really? Over the Ipod nano. Because i'm stuck between two options. Either an Ipod Nano 8GB or an Ipod Touch 8Gb. I don't mind spending the extra £60 for the touch as long as it can be justified.
The main concern about the touch is the size of it. Although you can't really judge it from pictures. Do you think it is too big? Or is it just right?

It's big, Apple use people with huge manly hands to show off the products, get a nano.

It's 3 and a half inches diagonally (and just a bit more for the edges). It's snug, fits lovely in your hand. I'd get a touch.
Why not try one yourself (http://www.apple.com/uk/retail)? :S

No I've used an iPod touch they are huge for a glorified mp3 player.

Yeah they do look massive. And to be honest I just want something that plays music - not all this rubbish about accessing the internet and motion sensor games..
But then again I love the concept of the touch screen.
Are there any more MP3 players out there with touch screen?

the touch isnt massive lol :S
its very customizable, has a sensitive accelerometer, and quite frankly looks very stylish and is very robust. mine survived a fall whilst walking up the stairs to an easyjet plane. to be honest the touch screen feature never gets old, my 8GB has currently 750 song, 600 photos and about 15 or 20 short 4 minute videos, along with a film.
i'd say its VERY worth it, especially with the new ipod touch, cus it has the speakers and volume controls.

I owned an iPod Touch myself, they are not massive/huge/big, its a very ideal size for a touch music player. The internet and the application side of things, is great. Like the above person as said, if you live near an Apple Store go and try one out for yourself.
Ps. You DO NOT need big manly hands.
I have a iPhone and that's not to big so I assume the small iPod touch isn't massive. But depends what you want out of it?

You guys have to admit, it's possible to see the grounds on which Jew's claims are made.
The iPod touch is pretty big, let's be honest.
The general thing is if you want a internet capable, game enabled and widescreen iPod, you go for touch.
On the other hand if you want a small iPod which just plays music and videos, you go for nano.
At thread starter: Get touch if you don't mind a pretty big chunk, they're great for gaming and internet usage. But if you want smallness, get nano. :)

ah nearest apple store is like 30 miles away.
How tall is the touch compared to, say, a passport? That just about fits in my inside jacket pocket.

i'd say its a littler smaller than a passport. and a lot less wider.

Yeah the iPod touch is wicked and it's perfect for pockets in your hand, it's not massive, it's just Jew Bear has a gripe with Apple for some reason :S
But if you only really want to listen to music I don't know why you are asking the question because it's self-explanatory :S You will love the games and stuff for the touch though.

Yes, but be warned they're not good for in pocket listening really.
But the appstore certainly makes up for that.

I have an iPod touch and they are great. There not huge, they are made to be able to fit in your hand, the user interface is miles better than on a nano, apps are great, like seriously great. You can do so many things using apps.

I love my ipod touch.
Its not massive tbh, it has great apps, wi-fi, music, video, maps everything.
I'd definitely spend the extra money to get a touch rather than a nano, the touch has everything :)

I don't think they are overly big tbh.
I have owned one of the most recent nanos and the touch, and the touch wins handsdown any time:P

This will be the first apple product i've owned. I have used the Ipod scroll wheel before and I found it to be quite awkward to select the menu/album that you wanted.
As for the touch, how hard do you have to press down on the screen for it to register it as a touch?
Nick.

Also just to note, I preferred the body shape and design of the iPod Touch 1G, yes the speaker is nice to have but I regret selling my 16GB iPod Touch 1G for my 8GB iPod Touch 2G. :(

What's the sound quality like on the speaker?
Nick.

It's ok to show friends the odd YouTube video, but I very rarely use it for other purposes. It's very cheap and it comes out of the Dock connector so is quite muffled and distorted. Not such a pleasurable listening experience tbh.

Kinda like the cheaper mobile phone speakers huh? Well that's alright i probably won't use it.
The 2g can play flash though, right?

No, the iPhone nor either iPod touch has flash compatibility. But seriously, the body design of the 1G is so much nicer. :P

If you know the size of the iPod Classic's, it's very very similar size to them, only a few millimetres in it.
No one's convinced me I need an iPod Touch yet, I often wonder why everyone likes them so much but I've never got an answer, they must be good for something otherwise they wouldn't be so successful.
The internet browsing on the iPod Touch isn't particularly desirable that's clear, if it could browse the normal web so well, why did they make things such a cut-down Facebook or even the portable HabboxForum skin? It's rather slow and all the zooming and 'grabbing' is rather annoying.
The actual 'iPod' inside it (Music & Video) isn't anything better than the iPod Nano other than a bigger screen. The main thing which puts me off here is the poor sizes, it only goes up to 30GB which is then very costly. Classic's go far higher.
YouTube isn't particularly necessary as not everywhere has wifi to access it and the applications aren't really needed? They're just little things which help do tasks your computer would. Nobody buys an iPod Touch or iPhone because they can do gaming, they just know they can do it, it's not a selling point.

I got the iPod Touch last christmas, bought the new Nano on the day of release. I much prefer the Nano 4G.
Nano for Music. Touch for videos and games. Simple.
@Stephen, just get the BeeJiveIM app.
I find the touch pretty decent and reasonably sized but that's because I have big hands, haha.

To me it's on the large size, but that's probably because I have smallish hands
