Yeah, I've tried port forwarding and downloading them via Firefox but they're still slow as hell. Any other suggestions?

AOL. (longer)

Not sure if im right but doesn't the amount of seeders affect the download rate?
If so then the higher the number of seeds are the faster the download, lower number of seeds slower download.

Check to see if it has any seeders.

Tried protolcol encryption?

Wayne
21-12-2008, 05:12 PM
It has about 10 seeds. I've tried torrents with over 100 seeds and they're still at like, 4kb/s max. What's protocol encryption?

In your client there will be an option to force protocol encryption. In uTorrent it's under the BitTorrent section for the settings. Set it to forced.

Higher seeders means you'll have a faster connection, all torrents start out slow, the more data you upload, you faster you can download. It's sharing system.

The max I get with torrents is about 50kB/s so I don't bother with them. Rapidshare is much better imo.

http://www.speedtest.net/result/377137752.png
Doesn't really make sense. 2400kb/s = 300kB/s and I get 500kB/s from rapidshare.

EDIT: I win slowest prize.

Robbie
22-12-2008, 11:42 AM
Because above is how fast you can d/l from that speedtest server. If you go to your router and look at your downstream sync rate thats how fast you can d/l.

e.g mine:

I'm afraid I'm going to have to claim that slowest prize.

My average BitTorrent download speeds are about 30kb/s but I've had up to about 90kb/s before..

There's obviously a problem there, you should contact BT. Say you are not happy and you want to be upgraded to the 16MB plan for no extra cost.

Did you try protocol encryption?

Robbie

Is there a green tick on uTorrent and not a red x or yellow !. Also does the portforward checker say the port is correctly forwarded?

Also try this; http://isohunt.com/torrent_details/54900129/?tab=summary

Heavily seeded.

I tried that and it increased it by about 2kb/s.

Haha don't worry its not normally that slow, it's playing up today for some reason, plus I was downloading a few torrents and some updates on my PS3 at the time, so I guess that slowed it down a bit. Although I dunno, does that affect it? But I live in the country so I can't expect it to be massive exactly..

Oh and @ Wayne, maybe try a different client, like Vuze? See if that works for you..

Robbie
22-12-2008, 03:58 PM
Double click it, see what port it says e.g 12345

then go to www.portforward.com for instructions for portforwarding on your router

Wayne

When I was on Windows my uTorrent used to have the ! yellow triangle and it worked perfectly. It always confused me. BTW what make of router are you using Wayne?

Wayne
22-12-2008, 04:30 PM
I'm using Netgear router DG834G. I tried setting up a static IP but my internet then screwed up by not displaying websites. I portforwarded BitTornado in my router setup, should I change the port to 38536 like UTorrent is using on my BitTornado setup in the router section? Would that help?

Robbie
22-12-2008, 04:31 PM
Whatever port you have forwarded, change uTorrents port to that

Wayne
22-12-2008, 04:41 PM
It still says my port isn't forwarded correctly. :S Man, I think I'm doing something wrong.

Wayne
22-12-2008, 04:43 PM
Welcome to the µTorrent Port Checker.
A test will be performed on your computer to check if the specified port is opened.

Checking port 38536 on 92.12.23.160...

Error! Port 38536 does not appear to be open.

Please see www.portforward.com for more information about how to map a port.

Please make absolutely sure that PeerGuardian2 or Protowall is allowing utorrent.com (72.20.34.145) in either of those programs. Those of you using ipfilter.dat should make sure the list does not include the website's IP. After making sure of this, re-run this test by refreshing the page (F5).

Enable DMZ on your local IP

Wayne
22-12-2008, 04:47 PM

Do I put in my normal IP address where it says default DMZ server tick box? It has my full normal address except the last 1-3 numbers.

Put your Local IP (e.g 192.168.1.1) go to control panel, view network status and tasks, view status, details and its the ipv4 ip address

Wayne
22-12-2008, 05:03 PM
There is no IP address there, it obtains an IP address automatically.
