A while back when the Sega Saturn just launched SEGA were planning to release Sonic X-Treme in order to compete with Crash Bandicoot and Mario. The game was cancelled due to the director not liking the fish-eye camera view and until today only a few screenshots and clips were released, most of them from E3 96.
Sonic X-treme is an unreleased platform game in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It was originally developed by Sega for the Mega Drive/Genesis but was moved to the Sega 32X and eventually to the Sega Saturn and intended to be released around Christmas of 1996, but after many problems and a long hiatus of development hell, it was finally cancelled in 1997. Had it been finished, it would have been the first fully 3D Sonic game and the first original Sonic title developed for the Sega Saturn.
A week or two ago, a guy working on it back then(Chris Senn) released some old videos of the game in it's development stages, he released 2 full levels. When there was a 15 second clip released last year it was demanded to be removed, but it has now been given the go-ahead to be released to the public. Some people are speculating fans may continue it on as a fanmade sonic. Personally I think it looks awesome. The graphics are great for the time.
It was gonna' be on PC and Saturn
