Well, basically got a 32" HD at the moment....going to sell to mates brother for £200.

Looking to upgrade to 42", mainly used for watching SD telly on Freeview, playing 360, PS3 and DVD'S.

I am looking to spend about £500 maybe, baring in mind the £200 extra so call it £700.

Any help please?

Still not great, I'd be looking for 30,000:1 at least.

Would strongly recommend this. http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5366062/c_1/1|category_root|Home+entertainment+and+sat+nav|101 99181/c_2/2|cat_10199181|Televisions|10199303/c_3/3|cat_10199303|40+and+42+inch+LCD+TVs|10199306.htm Philips TVs are excelent at displaying standard deff freeview as well as HD stuff

If you're willing to spend a little more then this is the option i'd go for http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/451517/PANASONIC-TH-42PZ82B Pannys are good for watching sport on and displaying standard deff freeview in good quality as well as doing HD very well.

At this sort of level forget about contrast ratios unless it's vastly different. The contrast ratios shown are the dynamic ones anyway which tell you pretty much nothing about how a TV actually performs.

Others to consider: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5366309/c_1/1|category_root|Home+entertainment+and+sat+nav|101 99181/c_2/2|cat_10199181|Televisions|10199303/c_3/3|cat_10199303|40+and+42+inch+LCD+TVs|10199306.htm

If it's a strict £700 limit go with the Philips for sure.

I spent a fair amount of time looking at TVs recently as i'm getting one for Xmas and Phillips and Panasonic are the ones that stand out as some of the best imo.
