I used to like the song Hallelujah, but now its playing on every single radio station, I'm beginning to hate it.

I hated it when she first sang it.

I'm sure I hate some of the songs you like but I don't make a thread about it

It's her own right to cover a song, the same for anyone else. They interpret how they want to and change it to how they want to. Fair enough, she may not have wanted to sing it but it's a good cover and shows he talent. I just wish they hadn't added the choir part at the end as they always do with all x factor songs

The point of the thread was for people opinions, not just to say I hate it (Well, I don't hate it anyways :P)

Count yourselves lucky, you could always have Eoghan or Diana singing it.

I'm getting really annoyed with every X Factor finalist getting a number one, it shouldn't be allowed in my opinion.

LOLLLLLL omh JLS singing Hallelujah.

Same but I guess the mega sales show that people will buy a single and not illegally downloadit if the artist gets enough publicity etc (the x factor winners have months of being on the x factor)

It's not automatic by any means. The only reason an artist reaches number one is because people are buying that artist's single. Evidently, there are many people who like this version of Hallelujah.

TopManTim: Did you mean "I concur"? To conquer and to concur are two very different things.

I do prefer Jeff's one which was #2 in the charts. Yeah it is pretty annoying that the X factor people get number #1 every year now, I thought Leona definetly deserved the number 1 spot this christmas.

& I suppose Alexandra singing it is better, though I'd have preffered JLS myself.

There are over 50 different versions of the song, and the song is effectively a soundtrack song. I could not imagine Ryan in The OC running away to Alexandra's version, I could not imagine it in Shrek or someone dieing to it in House or Scrubs. Her version is one of the worst versions and the only way it'll ever be used in TV or Movies is if Simon pulls strings. Rufus's version is the best!

hallelujah is probably one of the most, if not the most, covered song of all time. i'd hardly say it's "ruined." though anyone who covers it nowadays is just completely unoriginal and probably lacks talent.

Me too. It's boring.

I can't get enough of Leona Lewis - Run, though.

Rufus Wainwright is the only version I need. He sings it well and doesn't change "you" to "ya".

Hmm, Id only really heard the song a few times before it was released by her. I wouldnt say shes ruined it, i would say the it has ruined her. Its WAY too overplayed. I refuse to play it whenever im on air.

Congratulations smartass.
Pointing out the obvious sometimes put perspective back into a thread where opinionated teens are full of their own self-importance and refuse to believe that a track is in fact good, despite the massive support it has garnered.

Me too. It's boring.

I can't get enough of Leona Lewis - Run, though.
Oh, I love Leona to bits! I would have loved for Run to get Christmas number one, but I still appreciate that Alexandra's version of Hallelujah is a good song.

I'm honestly concerned that you know me better than I know myself. I wasn't aware that I fell into either of those categories. Apparently I do, because you said so.

The original singer of any original song makes the song amazing.

The re-make of the same song makes it disgusting.

That's why the XF needs to go back to the winner's single being a new/unknown song, eg. Shayne Ward - That's My Goal and Leona Lewis - AMLT

Leon Jackson destroyed - WYB :\
and obviously some people, not all, feel the same way about Hallelujah :X

kelly clarkson sung a moment like this before leona except back then no one really knew it was a cover because youtube wasn't around. if they did any cover whatsoever now a days, even if it was only recognised by a few, people would still say stuff like "I PREFER THE ORIGINAL BLAH BLAH BLAH"

why don't they do a spin-off to the X-Factor.. like a song writing version of it? winner pens the winner's song.

oh and it doesn't really matter what you personally think of the song.
if everyone thought the same it wouldn't be verging on selling a million..

I quite like Alexandra's version... But it obviously won't beat versions such as Jeff Buckley's. Still, the majority of you probably didn't even know about the bloody song before X Factor. I know I didn't.

I know Alexandra's version isn't the best - but she still sings amazingly and if it wasn't for her I wouldn't of known the song in the first place.

thats why i said a new/unknown song :)
rumours were this years winners single was going to be Jordin Spark's winners song, 'This Is My Now', I'm pretty sure the average listener/watcher wouldn't have known it was a cover, which is why it would have worked well, as did 'AMLT'. Also YT has been around since early 2005, 'AMLT' was released late 2006.

to be honest, any single generated by a programme watched by 14 million people every week, for months on end, would have alot of sales. expecially the 'hype' that x factor churns.

dont get me wrong alexandra has a good voice, but i can't see anything special about her yet, to me atm shes just another beyonce/whitney clone. guess i'll have to wait till her first non-cover single...

you're only pissed because diana didn't win
and i'm fine with her being a "beyonce/whitney clone" because truthfully, the UK R&B genre has no UK leading ladies beyond alesha dixon ;/

why is that always the case?
not everyone is going to find someone special or amazing about her voice, and its nothing to do if their act won or not.

i think that alexandra is world class, but i wanted JLS to win for other reasons (not because they're fit, they were!)
but personally, alexandra's version is okay, but i dont like a girl singing it tbh, rufus wainwrights version is my favourite tbh. and alexandra's version is kinda starting to annoy me cos it's played so much, but i also dislike how they brought a choir in at the end..

This song is supposed to be a gritty, upsetting rock song - and well, now its manufactured garbage pop. I really don't like this cover :(

There have been remakes of the song I liked such as the one by George Buckley which made it kinda Blues-y and it sounded good in that style, but not like this.

kk.

george buckley? never heard that one before.
She didnt ruin it, she made it her own, jut like leona lewis made run her own. And tbh, run sounds like a power balad anyway with the lyrics, a love song.

well in fairness, the song isnt "supposed" to be anything. in fact, the original writer of the song never even technically finished it, he wrote dozens of verses over many years and couldnt decide on which ones to use. all the covers are verses that the artists chose. there is no point in doing a cover if you are just going to make it sound exactly like the original.
