I'm not entering because they're only doing it so they don't have to pay royalties. They want a free website made by members and offer them pittance in return. I once got offered a decent sum of money to develop a new website for Habbox Live but it looks like they're getting extremely tight.

well with VIP gone can u expect them not to be trying to do as much as possible to keep costs down. dont be so ignorant, they provide you a free service that im sure you use (and as youre using the forum you are using it). Hosting fees for all the websites costs a lot and unless you want them to go under stop making stupid comments about how theyre trying to get things for free

It's not a stupid comment, AT ALL. You could say that about anything - the police offer a service for free (well, not but you know what I mean) but they want a website created for free. We're web developers as well that actually want a career in this profession and developing a website for a small-time site, for free, isn't the way to build up your portfolio. I know what you're saying (even if there was no need to say it how you did) but it works both ways - we're not going to give OUR time and OUR resources for free when we could be giving them to someone else for a healthy amount of cash or benefits.

On another note, Habbox pay way too much for their servers so they could cut that down straight away.

They wouldnt pay for something they didnt need, trust me. But it is building up your portfolio... Its not like you cant include it on your folio if you wanted to. Anyway, people can sell their habbo furni for money so in effect, you could get £30 + the VIP. Theyre giving THEIR resources for free and THEIR money that they have earnt to keep the service running when they could be doing something more worthwhile. But their not, so i fail to see why people wouldnt want to do them a favour by designing a layout for them to use.

If you wanted to buy, say a new laptop - but you could donate the money to a charity, say the NSPCC (because you're a child) which would you choose?

im not too sure what youre getting at.. it has nothing to do with anything.

It has everything to do with the principle you're trying to argue against. I have web design skills - I could use them to make some money or I could use to them for charity work (i.e Habbox Forum - which isn't a charity). I have money - I could use it to buy something I want or I could use it to donate to a charity and not have the laptop.

I'm saying that people want money for their skills. It's like me going into Tesco and asking if I can have some teabags for free because my mum stopped giving me money. I use Tesco but I don't expect them to give me stuff for free.

yes, and what im getting at is habbox only want a design for all the services they provide. You use habbox but you expect everything to be free. Its not fair on the owners that they now have to pay every single fee out of their money but they are... at the moment... All they are asking for is a layout. Its hardly a lot of time for someone to make one and they get a small bit in return

I think you're wrong, honestly. Habbox have a choice whether they want to break from the Habbo connection (which in my eyes would be a great move) so they can gain more revenue. I have absolutely no sympathy for Habbox as they spend so much on severs and a stupid amount on an un-used chat system. These are the reasons they want this for free and these are the reasons that my support will not be given to Habbox in this way. I buy VIP to support Habbox but in return, I expect something (which I get) because I've paid money for a service that costs nothing. I don't think Habbox have got their priorities right. Habbox is NOT a charity.

Habbox chat i would expect to see gone because of the no VIP. If they want to break from habbo what would be the point? The whole point of them possibly wanting a design for what theyre offering is so they can stay a fansite. If they didnt want to then they could quite easily just charge for VIP again. im off now anyway so ill have to reply to you later.

The chat MUST go, it's a no brainer. What I'm say is if they break from Habbo (which HabboForum/Habbo.net did) then they wouldn't have to go by the rules of Sulake because they wouldn't be realte to it in anyway - thus, being able to sell VIP. Even if they didn't offer cash as an incentive for this 'competition' (which they're not) the Habbo reward isn't really an incentive - it should be more. Whatever happened to the massive donation from jrh2002 was it - surely it would make more sense to use a portion of that as a 'prize' because it's driving Habbox forward.

Anyway, we're not discussing this with management so it's a waste of time - I'm not entering :).
