Hey, i am with virgin media and its been fine for ages.
Then after it was down last night my xbox 360 connects to live but doesnt let me do anything, like speak to people or anything.
Anyone know what the problem is? :(

join the club, test the connection and see if it says Strict NAT if it is then theres no way to fix it, as i've tryed it.

As mentioned, it's due to your NAT being strict.

Virgin media + Belkin router + Xbox LIVE = Good combination.
I dont have a clue why yours isnt working if you have the wireless in the back of the xbox and then set the settings on the xbox to automatic it works fine :S

Okay well.. You can fix a 'strict' NAT.. Its called port forwarding.. Google it and search something like - portforwarding xbox 360 then find the ports needed to be opened.. its nothing to do with virgin. im on virgin 10mb with a belkin router and i have 'open' NAT
If you have strict nat you must change it to play in most games etc

This explains it really well for Xbox Live on Belkin Routers:

For a start, stop thinking you kow everything yes you can fix it :S.
Ring up xbox customer support, ask them for the NAT codes. Go onto your router settings page (Your ip, or routers ip). Then go on virtual servers and type the code in that they told you.
Dont chat s*** moron.

If you ring up xbox live they tell you exactly how to open your ports if you dont wish to fiddle around for ages.
