you can not do something wrongExcessive Usage? Not having a decent air flow for the fans? Treating the console badly?
Nine times is just careless it's not a coincidence.
the first two or so times it was ontop of my old little tv so that caused it to over heat(i think) so i take responsibility for thoughs times.
But all the other times the xbox has been near a window with nothing behind it, out in the open and i dont over use it so i dont see how it is my fault that its has failed on me so many times.
oh and i treat all my electronic goods with care, so its not like i am kicking the thing around or hitting it.

I've had my 360 for 6 months and no RRoD's... I make sure that it's never bashed around and there's a good air flow...
My "friends" 360 was brand new and he got a RRoD... the power cable was in loose. Plugged it in properly and bingo, working.
