Why is everyone moving to Windows 7? It looks terrible.. why move? Vista - massive RAM abuser but it looks better than Windows 7.. or just use XP?

Windows 7 is incredible. Unless you use it yourself, you wouldnt understand. And if you have, you are blind

What is new too it? I have seen a pile of rubbish about it. Everything looks ugly from the previews.

The sheer speed of it is what atracts me. Uses only about 900MB of RAM. The new taskbar may look odd, but when you actually use it, it's not bad at all

900MB is a lot when you only have 1.75 GB.

It's proportionate to how much RAM you have just like vista is. 900MB out of 8GB isn't alot.

Windows fanbois here ^_^ No just kidding.

I think its got a long way togo in terms of Gaming Performance/Rendering/Transcoding which I do regularly. XP just beats it hands down, but I prefer practical use over graphical and "new" applications.

What are you talking about? It beats XP in most if not all benchmarks.

Everyones moving to it because it's new, and free in beta.

I'm going on personal experience, I am running both and I am saying for me XP beats it hands down. What is people's obsession with benchmarks on things that don't even relate to what tasks I'm performing. Which is gaming etc..

Don't forget it's still in beta so performance will only improve.

I of course know that, and the official drivers when released will make a nice boost. Its great for everything bar gaming, and transcoding. Its just smoother and faster on XP.

What shocks me, is that I used to be an XP > Vista fanboy until I was forced to use vista, now I realise how much XP is worse. you should actually just go to Vista or 7.

I have to say Windows 7 is a huge improvement on Vista, it's like Vista, but they got it right this time.

Maybe I like it because it's becoming more Mac like... (bwahahaha, joking :P)

I really don't like Vista, it just wasn't for me, it would use up too much RAM for me.

I really like Windows 7 however, it's speedy and cool at the same time, all the little niggles I had with Vista have been fixed (such as the links on the left side of a page, UAC etc). Can't wait to see the full release.

What he said ^ I wish I could compare directly to XP but I only have Vista and 7 on my laptop and can't install either on my desktop PC. But compared to vista its just miles ahead, the laptop's 1GB of RAM is pretty happy running under 7, I don't think I've had any slowdown at all yet.

How on earth is that an opinion? I am not picking this out of my backside I am clearly stating how XP is faster for what I am doing.

Its about 10 minutes quicker to encode a video into h264 with AAC audio for me, on XP - using ffmpeg/mencoder GUI.

I also get 20-30 FPS extra in source based games.

I'm moving once it's officially out. Vista is fine for me the way it is, and apparently Creative X-Fi drivers aren't really supported.
