GRRRRRR
I got my car insured with more than on saturday, and phoned them up asking them to fax me a covernote so as I can get it taxed.
I spoke to some foreign women who was like "no problem that is fine sir" then hung up before I even gave her a fax number!
So I phoned up and finally got someone British, who said he would fax it out but all I got was a letter which isn't good enough to get tax - and apparently they can't fax me a covernote.
Thats crap though, as my girlfriends dad managed to get a fax from then to let him buy tax!
Grrr this is bugging me, as I drove this weekend without tax under the impression it would be all cool even if I got stopped cause I could just explain the car was new and I was waiting on the tax - but now it's just taking the mick and the insurance docs still haven't came 4 days after buying the policy! :@
Any ideas how to get this damn covernote faxed out? GRRRR.

I think I had a similar problem with my new car.
We have this little piece of paper that basically has your name, car make/model/year/vin/insurer and expiry date and you keep it with your registration in the glove-box. When I bought my new car I bought it from a Honda dealer, so it came with temp tags and a month’s insurance from the dealer. I wanted to get it sorted ASAP because the insurance was on my other car and the dealer insurance was ****. So I called and the insurance company wouldn't accept my temp tags because they said it had to have proper tags from the DMV.
So, I had to take the tags off my old car, take them to the DMW and get the information switched so that my old car had temp tags and my new car had the real plates. The girl thought I was trying to pull a fast one because the car was the same, same color, just different year and different VIN, she even asked for a bill of sale, which I had!
The excuse "I'm just waiting on the tax" may be true, but it sounds fake, it's like "I'm just waiting for my licence to come" - it might be true for 5% of people, who get stopped, but the other 95% are trying to pull one over on the cops, so it ruins it for the other 5% of honest people. (If you get what I'm saying)
I think you should argue that you have been greatly inconvienced by this whole thing, and they are wasting valuable coverage time. I'll use Adam for an example of this, his policy is for 2700 pounds a year, divide that by 365 days in a year = 7.40 pounds a day, multiply that by 4, the amount of time with out a cover letter, that’s 29.6 pounds WASTED! That’s like $60 US MONEY, I'd be ******* PISSED!

Don't drive without tax though otherwise you are going to get your car impounded and the police will catch you out easily.

I was under the impression you can't use a fax or a photocopy of your insurance certificate at a post office or your local licencing office, and it must be an original. Never used the DVLA online service for licencing so unsure how you intend to use the certificate once you've got it.
Please don't drive without road tax, the risks are too high.

If you use the online service it checks the PNC to see if you have valid insurance which he would have but would be waiting 7 days for a tax disc
