First, click here (https://www.ovh.co.uk/individual/products/dotcodotuk.xml) or visit https://www.ovh.co.uk/individual/pro...dotcodotuk.xml (https://www.ovh.co.uk/individual/products/dotcodotuk.xml) to start.
http://i40.tinypic.com/2vx0xh3.png

Then type in the domain name you want, if it is taken it will tell you, click "Registration"
http://i39.tinypic.com/abt1m8.gif

If it is available then click "Continue".
http://i44.tinypic.com/2mqj31v.png

Then select the first choice which is the "Gold offer" and then click "Continue"
http://i43.tinypic.com/2akh5d0.png

And then select "No Hosting" and then click "Continue"
http://i43.tinypic.com/mtrw20.png

It will then show a preview of your order, if you are happy with it click "Continue"
http://i39.tinypic.com/29wmgwy.gif

You will now need to register a new account, click "New contact"
http://i41.tinypic.com/2eob3w0.gif

Then type in your real or made up first and last name.
You will need to enter your REAL mobile number, don't worry it is free and there are no texts after this.
http://i43.tinypic.com/iyilo9.png

http://i40.tinypic.com/2z8q6ma.png

You can now review the contact information, when you are done reading it then click "Continue"
http://i42.tinypic.com/fl8z0p.png

You will now be on the DNS Server page, here you can select a custom name server (From a hosting you are registered with) or select Ovh's default name servers. You can change these at any time anyway.
When you have made your choice, click "Continue"
http://i44.tinypic.com/f0db87.png

You must now scroll to the bottom (or read through) and tick "I have read and accept the contracts".
Then click "Continue"
http://i40.tinypic.com/xp3n9x.png

You will now come to a billing page, the total will be £0.00 so don't worry.
Now to the bottom left of your screen you should see a box saying "Free Validation", click "Next" in that box and enter the code.
http://i39.tinypic.com/2ur45t0.png

You will now recieve a few emails about the registration, read them all and make sure you find the two emails with the validation link in it.
The subjects of the email begin with "[INVOICE PP_*******]" and "[ORDER *******]"

There is no limit on the amount you can make but you can only make 2 on the day you registered and 1 every other day.

This offer has no expiry date and has been going for over a year so it should work all the time!

And before someone says:
'After 1 year they charge you!!' they don't. You can cancel and they take control of the domain, I emailed asking and they said you will definitely not have to pay if you cancel after a year.

I wouldn't trust that site considering VAT isn't 17.5%.

I have 14 domains with them, works fine.
and VAT is 15% now not 17.5%.

I swear it's only first year first, they'll charge you for the 2nd year?

efq
24-01-2009, 02:19 PM
The second year if you want to keep it they will charge you, if you don't want to pay for it then they just take it off you.

1 Year free is still good.

jackass
24-01-2009, 02:23 PM
So it will cancel it automatically after a year, or will it just charge you?

efq

Cancel automatically after the time they give you if you want to renew.

Use a fake address postcode etc.

alrite Graham,

I have literally tried everything to get them to Ireland, which Includes ordering free t-mobile sims to Ireland to txt off with, I then realised with uk sims that you have to activate them with 5£ credit so i was like what a skam.

Unless you get somone English to txt off for you, I dont think so.

This should be stuck or something to prevent duplicating of the same topic, I posted a sort of in-depth guide on how to change nameserver's with OVH.

Nice guide, but apparently you didn't make it so you don't deserve any reputation for re-posting a guide and claiming you made it in the credit's.

(Not that I have any reputation point's anyway) :(

It sucks, because after the year you have to go through the hassle of switching domains or paying the overpriced fee that OVH charge.

efq
08-02-2009, 05:42 PM
Thats your choice, but a free domain for a year is a good thing.
If you want a domain for a long term use (Over a year) then don't use Ovh. If you just want a little blog or something then your fine.

Go to https://www.ovh.co.uk/managerv3/ and login. Select your website and click 'Change DNS Servers' or something around that. Click modify and put these 2 over the default Ovh Nameservers.

ns01.000webhost.com ns02.000webhost.com
Then click accept.

After a few minutes you'll get s email saying its done and it should work.

No you are not, check the Habbo rules.
Of course I know that rofl. Habbo take action on people who use it with lots of members, make profit and so on. I use it for myself to design and Habbo don't seem to do much about that.

Incorrect, when you sign up in the T&Cs it clearly states that they only contact you to renew it. They go by the Data Protection Act 1998 and the information isn't given to no-one else or for them to profit off.

Make sure you research before you accuse.

Awfy

The T&C clearly states "THEY" will contact you to renew it. I want proof that they don't sell the information, why else would they need you to verify your mobile number?

Lol, noob.

Nothings totally free, they're T&Cs clearly state that your information isn't given to no-one else. They want your mobile because the chances are you'll always have your mobile with you, plus so little kids don't register loads and the chances of renewing are slim.

If I get a call from some sales person then I'll go straight to Ovh with a complaint.
User who have been registered with them over a year have already said they send you 1 email and thats it.

sorry but gregs right.. The data protection act is about protecting your data from getting in the wrong hands via hacking or phishing etc. The company own your data now and can do what they wish. Its of value because they pay to keep it secure.

Anyway, you couldve avoided this by just using an old mobile number

Seems like none of you understand how business works, they'll be making an income from your details already. You could put your email address into a website in 2002 and not hear anything until 2008. Selling information is done during high times in the economy and when someone is wishing to promote a new product. Since we're all in low times at the moment you won't hear for a while. Doesn't mean they haven't already sold your details just means whoever has bought them is waiting for the best time to use those details.

Most web businesses will make an income from your details. Ever wonder why you get emails from companies who you haven't even heard of?

Not all companies ell your details, and if a company starts contacting you and/or spamming your mailbox, if you tell them to stpo they must otherwise it's against the law.

They must state how you can stop the emails and you then you must follow those procedures.

You can't just reply and tell them to stop it, they'll just laugh at you and send you a hundred more.

I'm going to try this out. :)

Parable.

Some information for everyone:

I rang up OVH to ask them what the deals were with the .UK names being free and they said this:

You DO NOT have to carry on for a second year if you don't want to
You can carry on for I think they said £3.00 for the second year
They will not sell your details

Hope this clears up a few points for you.

Hi, it might be a case of just waiting, but I've changed the nameservers to the ones at 000webhost, now when I visit my site it just redirects to http://imp.ovh.net/

I'll wait it out, I guess.

I emailed OVH and the offer is discontinued. Makes sense though, they were using a common, psychological pricing tactic called loss leaders. Which means a business offers a product and a cost lower than the cost to produce (Making a loss) to entice customers into their other services, for example web hosting.

I wouldn't trust that site considering VAT isn't 17.5%.
This was posted on HabbCrazy Forum and I got a free .co.uk domain.

If so, that sucks.

Yes, there service was rubbish anyway and didn't give you full access to the domain

You cant expect full access when its for free.

I think its good for people who wanted to try a new type of site, and if it failed then they didnt lose their money on a domain. If it was a hit then they can buy the domain and get full control.
