Its Oscars 2008 because its acknowledging film of 2008, rather than 2009 :8!

Edit: At Alkaz: They hold it at the start of the next year so as many films as possible released the previous year can be included in the nominations :D They don't call it the Awards Season for nothing :P

Innit, but the industry refer to them as The Oscars 2008, including members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences who vote on the winners. "The 81st Academy Awards ceremony will honor the best films of 2008". It might not be technically, but its a tradition ;D

I'm a man of tradition :'(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/81st_Academy_Awards Wikipedia will too, if you go to the bottom for the drop down menu to select other Oscar ceremonies it will class it as 2008. I know its just Wikipedia, but still!

Snubbed for Best New Artist at the Grammys :( But this year for the Brits she was only eligible for the category she was nominated in so thats good :8

I hope Ricky Gervais is presenting and award. The last two awards shows he has presented at (Emmys and Golden Globes) he made drab awards shows look good :8! Kate Winslet better win her category this year or that makes it 6 nominations and no wins. We want it 5 (or 6 if you she wins and its still classed as a nominationa nd w in) nominations and 1 win :D

yeah, its for the previous year. which is why usually (although for some reason not so much this year) movies that end up being up for best picture are released in december, so they are fresh in the judges' minds. most production companies know what movies are considered oscar-worthy.

I'm secretly routing for Kate Winslet - she is like, one of the biggest losers in Hollywood.

Sammeth.
23-01-2009, 12:54 AM
She won both Golden Globes which is a good indicator! All though they aren't always *** for tat, it gives a good perception on what kind of winners you might get :8! Fingers crossed!
