Check IPs, block it?

I think you use the servers firewall?

If there's over X amount of connections from each user then it will block the ips.

If you have no way of stopping them and its doing harm to the server, shut it down (gracefully).

Yep, close HHGS.Net and do something constructive with your time on the internet.

Its down to the hosting provider, but if you own the dedicated box get an app called DDoS Deflate (linux only, uses iptables).

There's countless ways to do this, but it's not really up to you, it's up to your host. If you like, put them in touch with me, and I can help them secure their server. Tech-Hosts hosts a large quantity of habbo fansites and along with that comes a lot of habbo fansite competition and malicious DoS/DDoS attacks - we don't even lag when we get attacked now.

If hes behind a proxy:

That's stopping vBulletin users from browsing the forum using a proxy to hide their IP address, that won't help at all again something like DoS/DDoS.

DDOS attacks are more then 1 IP.

No, not necessarily.

No, not necessarily.

DDoS attacks are always more than one IP. DoS attacks are one IP. (DoS stands for Denial of Service, if it's multiple IPs it's "distributed" and so Distributed Denial of Service/DDoS).

Right... and how do we know thats its not DoS? He is just using the term DDoS because he thinks thats the correct term for it, he has not checked server logs so there is no way of telling. Think it through.

wrong, distributed is a series of systems hitting the same address. Furthermore he aint even getting DoS'd.

Protege what do you mean? I made exactly the same point as you, just in a different context.

Install DDoS Deflate. I am pretty sure you can take legal action against him too.

Seems to me as if you've just read a wikipedia definition.

I did not read a wikipedia definition. I have played with botnet to spam MSN. I also read HackForums. And I know a few things about it.
