Hello,

I have a VGA monitor but on my computer I have a HDMI port. I cannot find ANY HDMI to VGA cables (only adapters) so I have made the following setup:

Now I will explain. I have used the HDMI to HDMI cable into an adapter, then connected that into a DVI monitor - it works fine. But, I want to now connect it into a VGA monitor, so I have used a DVI coupler (the dvi - vga converter and the hdmi - dvi converter are both male inputs, so I have used a female to female coupler) to connect to the DVI-VGA cable. When I connect the VGA cable into my monitor (which I know is not the problem) it doesnt work.

Can I convert a DVI-I signal to VGA? Should it work?

Help is much appriciated.

I think it is because HDMI is a digital only output. DVI can be either digital or analogue which is why it can be converted to an analogue VGA signal as it uses the analogue output capabilities of DVI to convert it to VGA.

Since HDMI is digital only it cannot be converted to VGA as you can't do things like that without transcoders.

That's my understanding of it, but i could be completely wrong as i've not looked it up :).

Ah - Thank you very much. How could I do this, then? I need to get out of the HDMI into the VGA, cheaply!

Googled it and HDFury is probably the way to do it. Not cheap though. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HDFURY-GAMER-CABLE-HD-FURY-HDMI-TO-VGA-CONVERTER-NEW-UK_W0QQitemZ250353198901QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Vide oGames_VideoGameAccessories_VideoGameAccessories_J N?hash=item250353198901&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1301|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A13 18
