I was looking at capture cards because I wanted to buy one so I could record my PS3 games. I have a problem though. I don't want to keep switching my PS3 from HD to SD. Can I record playing in HD without wasting a load of money on one of them expensive HD recorders? I don't care how it comes out as long as it isn't as bad quality as putting a camera infront of the TV :P

Will it work if I put the coloured cables in leaving the HDMI cable in (forgot the name of them) and set it up as normal then when recording playing on the HDMI output?

Yeah I got a HDMI cable which I use to play my PS3. I don't want to record in HD because it will be too expensive. I just want to play in HD so I don't have to change my PS3 settings everytime I want to record.

Hauppauge HD PVR
Myself and Brandon are getting one, I'll be getting one at the end or middle of Feburary.
Brandon is getting one quite soon.
It's £140 though you get the cables with it.
Records in 720p and 1080i, lets you play in both.
There is no way possible to play in HD but record in SD, the signal sent out by the 360 is HD and the recorder can only take SD signals. Unless you get some converter to the signal which I currently do not know off.
Other alternatives include Hava HD Platinum, which is roughly the same price.

*cough*

Me and Jord have ordered one, and I told you about it :P

I'm fairly sure it goes upto 1080p but no games really support it and YouTube only allow 720p so there isn't any difference, it doesn't input with HDMI so just follow this video.

I'll just get Dazzle and switch off HD everytime I use it. Whats the difference between Dazzle Video Creator and Dazzle Video Creator Platinum? The platinum is out of stock on Amazon but the normal one isn't.

I was thinking the 2nd silver one because I don't want to wait 2 - 5 weeks for the black one. Will this record stuff like Rock Band on my PS3?

Get Dazzle Plantium (silver)
3 Splitters
1 Double Ended VCR Cables, the yellow white & red ones

That's basically all you need, but Paul found out a way how to record 400p or something that I can't remember, so you might need extra stuff if you want a bit more of a clear picture.

So is that the 2nd silver one in that list i posted? Whats the difference between the black and silver one? I found a double ended VCR cable when i was tidying my room so that helped me out a bit :D

I'm not sure but I imagine the black is similar to the red and can only record Pal 50 and not 60 I think :P Best to go with plantium, it's really good.

It's confusing because the black one is called video creator platinum and the silver one is just called video creator and you're telling me to go with platinum :P So which is the real platinum?

The silver is actually a Dazzle DVC 170 (Dazzle Plantium)

Ok. Thanks for the help! I found the splitters for 1p each so i'm getting the 3 for 3p :D

Edit: Just before I order I just want to check if this is the right splitter:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gold-plated-splitter-plug-sockets/dp/B000L980MU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1233263797&sr=8-2

I read a few reviews and apparently it only records to DVD though. Do I need DVDs to record then?

It's optional but you can just hit record and when you stop the recording it'll save in My Videos and there's a file you can automatically open in Sony Vegas and get any editing done, then just hit make movie, select .wmv and when it's finished rendering your video will be ready to upload to YouTube ;)

You can't record with anything on HDMI which is an ********. Even with my HD recorder I've had to lose a tiny bit of quality using Component cables instead.

Or Studio 10 which is easyer to cut clips.

Or Studio 10 which is easyer to cut clips.

Studio 10 is only used to actually capture the recordings, editing on it is so crap it's unbelieveable, and it's a lot easier to split clips on Sony Vegas than Studio 10.
