View Full Version : Can't infractions/warnings be cleared

Once they've reversed expired, they're so ugly in my user cp. I have two warnings and one infraction which have expired and been reversed respectively. I know it's been done before just wondering if you'll do it again and when.

Unless anything happens major to the way infractions work or anything I doubt they would do it as expired ones still count and if you have an expired warning you can still get an infraction from it so I doubt they would clear them and I dont know about reversed ones, I guess the need for mod reports.

But they're so ugly and make the forum a negative place, I haven't had a valid punishment since November getting on 3 months ago and yet I still have to see these ugly things when I click user cp.

Immenseman
28-01-2009, 02:25 PM
my two warnings are fair enoughish but they were from LAST YEAR!! and my infraction was reversed so it's not like it's serving as a reminder because i didnt do anything wrong - the mod just needed to get his logs up

i agree reversed nd expired ones shd be removed coz theres no point to us it being there and.... for what? :S

cant they just make a 'infractions' heading on the left where all the edit your profile stuff is

Immenseman
28-01-2009, 02:28 PM
according to alkaz, for mod reports which i doubt is the actual reason.

camera
28-01-2009, 02:30 PM
yeah but its pointless to us lmao

Immenseman
28-01-2009, 02:31 PM
yeah why aren't the users being thought of :(

Alkaz
28-01-2009, 02:31 PM
Its their as a record for mod reports. But its so that when you break the rules moderators can see if you have broken the rules before even if they have expired. If you got an expired warning you can still be infracted for the same reason so if they would to clear it all people would be breaking the rules alot more as they will only get user notes at the start.

Immenseman
28-01-2009, 02:33 PM
They can check other ways in regards to them being there for mod reports. Warning stuff fair enough but a section on the left hand side called "infractions" would be better.

28-01-2009, 02:33 PM
keep it in their own records then

Its only you that see it anyway so I dont really see the fuss.

Well, I do so do others hence this thread. You shouldn't be staff (why aren't you a mod anymore) if you can't take other opinions on board. Maybe that's why you're not a moderator?!

I think maybe the "New Year, New Start" should of been considered? Hence 2009...?

For those that have these, then you have them for a reason for doing something against the rules. Lets call it a reminder for what you have done :P

However in the case of it being reveresed or what ever, i dont think they can just be removed from your usercp if they are in the database they are there for good. But dont quote me on that.

No, they can be removed via the AdminCP Yonder :P

they cleared all infractions/warnings in errr may/june last year, i remember coz i got a warning the same day they changed that lmao :8
i hate having 3 pages to look through (when i'm looking to see who i've received infractions from:@) i'd rather just see the ones i have active

Expired ones are only wiped when we're feeling reeeeeealy generous like we were in August (I think it was August, idk :P) when we changed the moderating system. As Alkaz said, seeing expired ones helps us to gauge if users are first time offenders or have a tendancy to break that rule regularly so we know how to deal with future rulebreaks. And tbh, we don't much care if you think it looks ugly, you earnt the infraction it comes with the package :P

If its a simple job there may be a case for wiping reversed ones but if it takes more than 10 seconds we could probably use our time for more important things. You'd still have the expired ones on your profile anyway so it wouldn't be that much of an improvement.

You are the sort of person that annoys me. Saying comments such as "Mods need them for logs" This is untrue. A moderator's reports are how many times they have posted in there section and how accurate there infraction are. EG 0 reversed.

So in actual fact alex says to mods dont infract unless you are 100% sure.

Hayd you annoy me without even posting. You think the mod department is attached to you. In fact it is true if a moderator never ever gave out any infractions but was online daily looking through posts they would be told to find more. *REMOVED*

If the expired ones are there for you to check our previous actions, why can't you move them so we don't see them on the front page of the User CP?

Like someone suggested - create a link on the menu on the left.

I agree that it is annoying to have to look at them when it was maybe some shameful moments in the past.
However, for the current infraction system to work we need to be able to see if users have had a warning/infractions on previous offences so that we issue the correct form of action on any rule breaking we come across.

Wiping them would start the whole system again, giving everyone a fresh start. Something I think should only be done at the end of a year or longer in my opinion.

Thanks to useful posts p-a yoshi etc. Fair enough really so you can see I have a warning for avoiding filter so if I do it again I can be infractioned, makes sense.

A MOD would never be asked to infact more for no reason. What they may be done for is not infracting when needed. EG After the PM - warning.

Im a state ? You dont even know me:rolleyes: I can safely say i am not jealous and neither do i have a problem with you. We never even spoke so i donno were you get that 1.

Perhaps there could be a time scale. Let's say after a year they get removed, as surely everyone deserves a second chance, an opportunuty to wipe the slate clean. Not automatic removal, but by member request.

So do I :)
but maybe less than a year, say a month after it's expired.
Having a warning thats expired in your user CP isnt really punishment its just there. It would be better to get rid of them though :)

:eusa_whis

There are two main reasons reversed/old warnings aren't removed. First of all, the labor involved in removing them is well...alot. Every single one has to be deleted by hand, it took us 1-2 weeks to do it last time around, and someone had to sit deleting them.

Second of all yes they are necessary for moderator reports - mostly to see how many reversed infractions a moderator has so in fact them staying helps the community - not the moderator.

Regardless, you have to switch to another tab to see infractions anyway. So its not like it just sits there staring you in the face - its hidden away unless you want to see it.
