No silly answers please!

I was just wondering because I am putting a list forward to local schools and librarys on how to encourage students to use the library computers for SENSIBLE course-related/work-related work. No youtube or pr0n here guys ;)

Any ideas are welcome and for the best answer +REP will be given :)

If they were rewarded for using them/doing coursework/work stuff

free, fast internet with download capabilites and the pc would allow data to be burned to a disc or put on a flash drive. This would never happen for a million reasons but regardless, it's what it would take for me to use a library computer.

Try to stay away from those it's ment to be for work not play!

In my local area most of them let you on Facebook, Bebo and Myspace. Just not AIM or MSN.

Well, our library (Bearing in mind I haven't been in there for a good 3/4 years since we got broadband) but they never used to let us use our own memory sticks / floppy disks for fear of virus'. And they had ridiculously filtered internet.

So erm, decent speed, decent spec, not really filtered internet

If you did not have to pay for the printing then I would.

If they do so many hours then they get a day when they can do what they want...

Let people listen to music through headphones from comps.

If the internet was actually reliable and the pc had more than 512mb of RAM...

Personally I wouldn't see a point when I have a computer/internet at home and live like 4 minutes away from school. The only reason I'd use school library computers is if I have coursework due in that day and it's not worth walking home at break or free period because it's raining or something.

And as someone else mentioned, the computer would have to have a headphone slot so I could listen to music.

Inseriousity.

Less filters. I'm not saying unblock all the games or IMs but some sites, which could be used for research for coursework/homework etc, are blocked and it's ridiculous. so yeah :)

Unfiltered access. If we needed to get on something that was filtered, it would defeat the point.

Upto date hardware and software, this means they have a decent proccessor with enough RAM so the programs don't die and freeze up when you try opening them , old software is useless and is annoying have to convert files to match them, the software needs to be upto date, such as office 07.

Also get rid of the useless filters.
