How high in the leaderboard do you think we will get this year?

I want to explain first about the voting system, because everyone goes on "OH WE'LL COME LAST *throw self in front of bus*, but the chances are with our combination of a good song and the new, favourable voting system, we'll do a bit better.

A jury made up of 5 music professionals will cast votes to go along side the televotes or the normal juries if the line breaks down or they don't have one. If the professional juries finds our song to be the best, we will definitely have points on the scoreboard. Juries have always been favourable to the UK, and ballads have brought us good results, so hoozah!

we'll most definately finish 21st-25th because no countries are gonna vote for us because we have no neighbours apart from ireland.

all countries vote for the countries that surround them and seeing Great Britain is an island, we're not going to get voted.

:P

edit: i didn't read the 1st post. hmm with that new voting system, we could do a bit better.

I'd say that was a good guestimate.

I love the amount of people who have voted 21st-25th probably without reading the post or listening to the song. There is a good chance it could be London 2010.

She's got the will, she's earned the right - she's going to do well. Paddy Power have odds of 7-1 on the UK winning.

Also the people have been going around asking for votes which could change the votes slightly.

If you mean when Andrew went to all the embassies and stuff to ask for votes, it won't have any effect.

Andrew will be funding a European tour for Jade in the run-up to the concert, and she will be appearing on EuroSong in Malta this Saturday along with the Turkish representative Hadise.

Ballads won't win eurovision, europe loves pop and rock.
We're going to finish near to last with this.

What do you mean?!?! Ballads always do well at Eurovision. Our last winning entry was a midtempo ballad, and the 2007 and 2008 winning songs were ballads.

15th or so, im not entirely sure how the voting system works but i still think we wont get many points from voters

This year its 50% Jury Voting from professionals in the music industry, all juries are made up from various aged people of various sexes to get a wider range of tastes and they bare no relation to anyone in the contest itself. In the previous years there are always juries in case televoting fails, and last year the "back up" juries who released their results had given UK high points. We could have done a lot better last year if juries had been reintroduced then, but it was 100% phone votes.

I reckon we could do well. I hope we would win, but a Top 10 would still be a victory. I'm hoping for that.

fact is, alot of people hate the UK so they wont vote it. the eurovision voting has nothing to do with how good the song is apart from by the judges thing u said. but the votes that matter are the public

kk.
01-02-2009, 05:07 PM
so say 24 countries voted, max is 12 per country. Thats a maximum of 296? and so if youre 1st with the judges, you can get 296 straight of?

This year the Public Vote only counts for 50% as well as the jurys which also count for 50% so we will do a lot better than recent years.

43 countries will vote, and each country's results will be made up of the usual 1-8, 10 and 12 points, except these will be made up half of the televote, and half of the jury vote.

So let's say the Swedish jury voted:
1 France
2 Armenia
3 Serbia
4 Spain
5 Azerbaijan
6 Slovakia
7 FYR Macedonia
8 Belgium
10 Germany
12 UK

and Sweden's public voted:
1 Slovakia
2 Germany
3 Spain
4 France
5 Serbia
6 Slovakia
7 Iceland
8 Denmark
10 Norway
12 Finland

The results would be
12 Finland (0+12=12)
10 Slovakia (6+6=12)
08 UK (12+0=12)
07 Germany (10+2=12)
06 Norway (0+10=10)
05 Denmark (0+8=8)
04 Serbia (3+5=8)
03 Belgium (8+0=8)
02 Iceland (0+7=7)
01 Spain (4+3=7)
00 FYR Macedonia (7+0=7)
00 France (1+4=5)
00 Azerbaijan(5+0=5)
00 Armenia (2+0=2)

So as you can see, with no votes from the public, the UK can still get good points. The televoters' choice overrides the Jury's, so that's why Finland's 0+12 and Slovakia's 6+6 would come above our 12+0. If the public choose a completely different 10 countries than the juries, their votes would count.

I hope this makes it clearer for you.

The juries will have half of the say, so we can still win off that, because some countries will have no neighbours in the final due to the new semifinal system implemented last year, so they will vote for the songs, not for the country.

Everyone needs to remember that a decent song can work miracles too - after an awful run of results in 1999-2001 we got a nice Joint 3rd in 2002. Then came our 26th place...

With the juries I'd say we'll come somewhere in the middle... not in top 10 but not under 20... :)

I honestly think we can make top ten this year
Andrew Lloyd Webber is a legend around Europe, that helps greatly, especially the fact he is reportedly playing the piano when Jade is on stage. Then before the Eurovision, Jade and Andrew are going to do promotion around Europe and things like that ect..

So I think we have a better chance this year :)

we're all to hopeful, we ask for to much to soon!

just because they have a jury and we have a better singer doesnt mean we will win, or even get in the top ten.

we say this every year, and do we ever get anywhere?

ill answer that for you !! NO WE DONT!!!

Juries have always been favourable to us though. In 1999 people got used to the idea that the UK don't need their votes and will be in the final every year anyway.

My demonstration showed that the juries (made up of 5 music professionals, who will know of Andrew Lloyd Webber) can alone give the UK good points. I think that our attitude towards the contest doesn't help our scores. We moan, then people see we moan, then we come last, then we moan, then people see we moan, then we come last, then we moan, then people see we moan etc... and the vicious circle goes on.

We've been 1st 5 times, 2nd 15 times and and 3rd 3 times. All but 11 of our 52 attempts got into the top 10! In recent times, the quality of our song has gone down - we can kid ourselves that it's all down to 'political' or 'bloc' voting, but it's due to crappy songs.

The Scandinavian block alone was not enough to get Finland to win in 2006, and Greece only has Cyprus and Turkey, so they didn't win through neighbourly votes in 2005...

N-Dubz
09-02-2009, 07:18 PM
it is political, terry used to be able to GUESS which country would vote for who and was always right.... thats why us or Ireland never get voted hardly ever. I'm glad to see France usually give us points though but I guess thats because there close to us. Maybe there votes this year will bump us up to 24th place??

this year i'd say 25th lol, i nearly fell asleep during our eurovision song entry when i first heard it.
