Jesus man, the sailors are only following orders and trying to make a living. There's nothing wrong with it in their culture. The protesters are no worse than white supremacists, inflicting their rules and culture onto others.

Absolutely pathetic, what gives them the right to go round the world dictating to others what they should do? They're no better than Somalian Pirates in my eyes.

Although I see that non-violent demonstrations have got them no where, it's going to make the Japanese more determined if they do use violence. They were putting their own lives at risk and the sailors in the other ship who are just trying to earn a living, it's not up to them to decide whether the Whales should be caught or not, that's for the government to decide. They're simply earning a living for them and their family so there's absolutely no need to attack the sailors/fishermen.

I don't know where I stand on the issue but I certainly respect the Japanese's choice. I think I'm in more support of the Japanese tbh than this barbaric lot. After all it is their tradition and clearly tradition means a lot in society.

There's a very stark difference between culture and genocide.

Yes, and these japs are genociding the whales. Their culture involves sushi, technology and cartoon characters with big eyes, not hunting whales.

Whales should stop being so tasty and useful if they don't want to be killed

They're killing them for food, food which has been an integral part of their culture since before we even knew they existed. It's not Genocide as they are being killed for a purpose, for food, for tradition.

Now, I don't think it's a tradition of Germany and Bavaria or a special season to gas Jews. And I doubt Mr Hussein thought "Ahh, that time of year again, let's put the decorations up and raise the SCUDs."

Cannibals eat people as part of their culture and tradition. Let me make my point clear: I don't care if it's some backwards culture. They're awful, simply terrible and should be taught some manners. It's worse than the french and their lack of queues. Just because it's their culture it doesn't mean it's right.

Agreed.

In the United Kingdom itself we have some crazy traditions that animals are hurt for just for our silly traditions. Like the Royal Foot Guards hats are made from Canadian Brown Bear fur. For each hat made one bear has to be killed, and we make about 50 per year. Even if its for tradition, its not necessary and not always right. Why keep hunting whales for food when its not necessary; just to keep up a tradition that is wrong.

Mark Thatcher was arrested in a nation where the leader was an alleged cannibal who ate the testicles of his enemies. No, we didn't stop that either (if anything, we egged it on). I think you should care a bit more about others and their age old beliefs rather than just your own. Killing a whale is no different the batch death of Cows, Chickens and Sheep. They're on the same food chain as us so.

May I also remind you of Halal food, an extremely cruel method of slaughter which we aren't all up in arms about and practiced worldwide.

50 out of 200,000, which is roughly 0.025% of the population, most of which are killed either because they're a threat to an area or from natural causes. People work really hard to earn the right to wear those caps, why should that be taken? I mean, the Victoria Cross is made from captured Crimean Guns, should we stop giving them out as it's theft from Russia and an insult to the men who died in that battle?

A lot of the whales being hunted are endangered though, which contrasts to the cows, sheep and pigs killed here in the UK.

Not entirely for food, the Japanese PM has given the go-ahead to kill x amount of endangered whales for 'research' purposes- which every other country objects. They are going to have to give up traditions, some whales are already on the brink of extinction.

Basically all they did now was give the fishing vessels reasons to carry guns and other protective equipment. In the middle of nowhere a boat could easily be "sunk" or a man "thrown" overboard.

I would of layed a nice law suit if I was them.

Silly whale protesters, why don't they do something better with their lives.

A boat carrying a group of anti-whaling activists has collided with a Japanese whaling vessel in the Antarctic Ocean. Japan said the incident, in which no-one was hurt, was "unforgivable".
