Ever since I've been at college i've been meeting people who continuously pump money into clothes and it got me wondering, how much do people often spend on clothes?

Personally - 30Ish quid per hoodie

I'd say on average the same as you, if I really want a hoodie and it's £50 I'd get it but if I liked it and it was £20 I'd get it also. Just depends what I like really.

It really depends on how much I like that item and if I think its worth all that money, but if its a bargin then I'll go for it obviously!
Jeans about £40
T shirts about £25
Shoes about £50
Its kinda hard for me though as I'm only fifteen and I don't have a job

jeans; the most expensive pair i have were £35. they're topman skinnies, and that's the most i'll pay because i've never found guy's skinny jeans as good as topman ones.
hoodies; £20-£30
tshirts; £10-£25. but i'd only pay £15+ if the designs are really nice, and if the tshirts is good quality.
shoes; are the only things i'd pay more than £100 for. but if i can get it cheaper i will.

im really cheap :P most my stuff is under £20 but I have some expensive jeans, t's, hoodies, shoes, trainers etc to expensify my cheaper stuff :P

Crimson
07-02-2009, 04:20 PM
£10-30 for a t-shirt
£40-70 for a sweatshirt/hoody or jumper
£80+ for jeans.

But thats probably averages.. if I found a jumper I really liked that was £130 and had the money there and then.. then I wouldn't hesitate to buy it. Whereas on other occasions I might see something quite nice for like £15 :P

But when it comes to jeans I only get more expensive ones so they last longer... Well, that's the plan.

As long as I'm sensible and what I'm buying is proportionate financially, I have no issues with extremes. For example, I'm currently wearing casual footwear from Burton... £9 in a sale. My favourite jeans were £10 in a Topman sale. I'm a sucker for bargains. But on the other hand I have no qualms spending £30 on a tie. I could go and spend £2 in Tesco, but quality matters to me.

One thing I refuse to do unless under exceptional circumstances: pay for the brand word. I buy quality and will pay a lot of money for it. I love quality items of clothing. However, I would not pay £50 for a belt with the word 'DIESEL' on the buckle when the same version with a plain buckle would be £15. Understated is fine by me. I have no desire for a Gio-Goi branded jacket: I would feel foolish and my friends would think I look ridiculous. If brand-bling mattered, I would see a lot of it every day. I don't see it. Brand-bling doesn't matter.

oh yeah just make it personal why don't you :@!

erm i'll pay whatever for whatever i find nice, although i like quality! i can't stand wearing tacky stuff. usually...
t shirt 25-35
jeans anywhere from 40-90
shoes 50-70

it just depends though, i guess i'm sometimes a bit vein and pay for the label, but it's my preference so idc :P.

Sorry, it was the example sat right on the top of my mind! :P (How are the spectacles?!?!?! lol..)

But but but (now for a general point to everybody), why use the lower limit? Would you really not buy anything that was under £20, even if it was brilliant, because it is under £20? See usually, I would buy good value things like that, as long as the quality was present. Thus, the lower limit is redundant unless you subject yourself to snobbery. While I do fall victim to brand snobbery now and then, it's not the the extent that I see the need for a lower limit.

Yeah, I've already said that I pay the price of stuff I like whether it's a £10 pair of jeans or a £60 pair of jeans.

If I was with him, do you think I would be laughing about his glasses online? I haven't even seen them yet! :(

Anyway it's normal here for hoodies (which virtually everyone wears most of the time) to cost like anywhere between £7 and £15.

Last time I mentioned something about money I was -repped for being spoilt.
I have got my clothes from Harrods sometimes but not always. My clothes are definitely above the average price but that is my choice but sometimes I won't spend a huge amount on my clothes if it isn't always needed. I have been brought up a little spoilt...

The amount I spend on t-shirts varies really from like £3 - £50, if I like it enough, I'll buy it.
The only kind of shoes I really wear are plimsoles and they are usually £10 - £30, I usually buy them from River Island though and they're normally £20. If I buy trainers though they're roughly £55 - £60.
Jeans are usually between £30 - £60.

But it applies for everything, if I like it and want it enough, I'll buy it, whatever the price (within reason of course, I wouldn't spend like £800 for a pair of jeans or something stupid like that)

same! thats why i hate hollister so much, actually. their clothes are normal clothes that other places carry plus "hollister" written on it in huuuuuge letters and a price thats tripled. everyone says "you just dont like hollister cause you hate brand name labels/you cant afford it" but if that were true i'd have no levi's or nikes or calvin klein. i dont like hollister cause their clothes are lame as hell and everyone who wears them looks the same lol.

but that being said, often what i consider quality clothing does come from a brand name.

You'll probably find it typical of me that I didn't know what Hollister was until it was mentioned in this thread. Oh well! :eusa_whis And yeah, the US chains starting up over here are pumping out some awful (and I mean truly, wouldn't be seen wearing them EVER, awful) clothes.

I think I like to view things in perspective: for the price of a Gio-Goi jacket with Gio-Goi jeans, I could buy a lovely Kurt Muller suit.

lol i dont think there's a hollister in the u.k., but it's pretty immensely popular over here. there's one in every mall. it's known for their ridiculous entrances:

http://www.have-fun-in-the-southwest.com/images/HollisterStorefront.gif

its mostly for preppy girls and guys who absolutely need to be accepted. yeah, the large majority of u.s. chain stores just pump out garbage with holes to put your arms through.
