A girl in my town killed herself by drinking 0,5l of vodka, or so the police say.
"She drank it, went to bed and never woke up" is that in any way possible?

Sounds more than likely as it sounds she wasnt used to drinking, 0.5l isnt that much really.

Why would anybody want to die like that? :/
Maybe she was a lightweight.
Weird... i guess it could be possible :S but something else prob happened
It's definitely possible, particularly if the alcohol was of a high volume and she hadn't eaten much. It would then be very easy to develop alcohol poisoning and die. Different people have different levels of resistance to alcohol too, so it obviously affects her more than other people.

If you're going to kill yourself – even if you're a lightweight – you would surely drink more than half a litre of vodka?

why is that stupid and inapproptiate? i find it hard to believe somebody committed suicide and the police concluded she did it by drinking half a litre of vodka.

Destroyed her liver and killed her?

as said, there could have been other substances mixed with the drink. maybe it was 0.5l of vodka mixed with some other alcoholic drinks? I don't really know lmao i barely drink myself.

And yet supposedly the police are saying the vodka was the cause of death. If indeed she had other substances to drink before or with the vodka, they would be operating factors at the time of her death. If what the police say is true, then she did not drink anything else.
If it was like 80% Alcohol and proof etc then it could of, It all depends how strong the actual alcohol is. One spoonful of pure alcohol can kill you!

Not really, you are all debating something that might not have even happened and sounds unbelievable.
Why would the police just tell him some girl killed herself with half litre of vodka, surely their must be some kind of news article or something..

I think it's definitely possible..
It would be extremely likely if she'd taken something else with it (I know my friend took morning after pills once, then went out and drank a little bit the night after and had to be taken to the hospital), or even things like menstrual cramp relievers or just 1 pill of tylenol or ibuprofen would be enough to hurt you pretty badly coupled with alcohol.
However, since you're saying the police are positive she didn't use anything else.. Well, then I'd still have to say its possible. If she isn't the kind of girl who drinks normally, or doesn't weigh too much, or especially if she hadn't had anything to eat earlier that day, then half a L is more than enough to kill you. A shot is about 35-45mL, and earlier this year when i first started drinking it only took me 2 or 3 shots to get tipsy, 5 to get to drunk, and then once time I had more, like around 8 or 9 and I blacked out and had been puking all night apparently. And 8 would have only been about 300ish mL of vodka! So yeah, 500mL of vodka would certainly get you to the point of having alcohol poisoning, especially if it was a higher proof vodka, or if she drank it straight all at once - it would have hit her system all at once a little bit later, and there's no way her liver could have processed it in time. I also believe your story since you said she 'went to sleep and never woke up'. Once you get alcohol poisoning, you tend to start falling asleep/passing out. Thats why whenever you're with friends and they've had a lot to drink, you're supposed to NOT let them fall asleep. Because once they've got alcohol poisoning, their breathing can slow/stop, their heart can stop, they can vomit and choke on it and die, they could die from severe dehydration from vomiting, etc. etc. It's a really big problem here in colleges in the US since a lot of college kids tend to go out and get wasted beyond the point of reason.. We can always hear ambulances on weekend nights on our campus, coming to pick up kids that've got alcohol poisoning..

Most likely asphyxiation was the cause, or she had taken pills/drugs.. but 5l of vodka is alot bare in mind.
A guy in my area died last year after he came home from a party, he came in complaining he had a sore head, took a few paracetamols, went to bed.. parents found him face first in his pillow in the morning, dead.
These things can happen..

And yet, read what our little informant has told us. Supposedly the police said vodka was the cause of death. Vodka would only be the cause of death if it was the only operating factor at death. If there were any pills taken, they would be operating factors at the time of death, thus vodka would only be a cause of death.
As said, if vodka was the cause, how can you contradict that and say it was asphyxiation?
I'm not saying anybody is wrong here per se... just ruling out some arguments based on what the police have 'supposedly' said.

True. So yeah, I'd completely rule out any other operating factors. In my opinion though, even if it was asphyxiation, I would still state it was the vodka's fault as it was because of the vodka that she asphyxiated. But thats just my non-professional opinion, lol.

In all honesty, it is vague. The natural presumption would be that the vodka led to a severe alcohol poisoning.
I hope we hear of more details because "vodka killed her" doesn't say much. "Severe alcohol poisoning as a result of high quantities of vodka (relatively!!)" would be less ambiguous.
The only thing "vodka killed her" rules out is any other operating factors. It still leaves open the effect the vodka had, though as stated the natural presumption would be alcohol poisoning.

Ah, yeah I understand where you're coming from, and I agree with you.
Anywho, I think we pretty much answered the base question he had, which was whether or not it was possible to die if you had .5L of vodka. Anything more specific definitely gets too complicated without any further information!
0.5l isnt that much atall
she must have choked on her own sick, but I don't get how she could plan that :S

Half a litre is nothing tbh. It could be allergy. I mean potatoes and some fermentation products are a natural product so an allergy is possible... but after fermentation is it possible to have an allergy?
I'd go for the throwing up in the night tbh. The less alcohol you drink, or if it's your first time you have no resistance and therefore you're pissed with an extremely small amount.
