So I was browsing on yahoo and I found an interesting article. I'm one of those people that usually only exercises by running to keep my body somewhat toned. I generally go for a slow warm up, then a straight run for a good half hour to 45 minutes, then I'll do a slow cool down. I was reading this article however, and it's convinced me to change around my running schedule. Apparently if you run in intervals, you lose a lot more weight/tone better than running straight. According to the article, in a study done in Australia between a group of women who ran for 20 minutes in intervals and a a group who ran for 40 minutes straight, the group that ran intervals lost 3 times the amount of weight the other group did.

Here's a sample schedule of the intervals you should do. Hop on any cardio machine you like for the time allotted and the exertion level noted (1 is the easiest and 10 is next to impossible).

Warm up for 4 minutes at a level 3.
Sprint for 30 seconds at a level 7.
Recover for 90 seconds at a level 4.
Sprint for 30 seconds at a level 8.
Recover for 90 seconds at a level 4.
Sprint for 30 seconds at a level 9.
Recover for 30 seconds at a level 4.
Sprint for 30 seconds at a level 7.
Cool down for 3 minutes, 30 seconds at level 3.

It's a total of 18 minutes and it's supposed to work a lot better for your body, which is great for those of us that really don't have the time for a longer jog or don't have the endurance and will to do so :P I just started trying this yesterday after I read it, so we'll see how well this works! Let me know if any of you guys decide to try this workout, and if it works for you guys!

That is called a fartlek session, training at different speeds, very good for training in a sport like football as it's more of an anaerobic sport.

It's a good fat burning excersise aswell I do excersises like this occasionally

Things like this are for people with a very, VERY high metabolism. Stopping for 60 seconds will drop your heart rate which kills the exercise in effect. To sufficiently burn calories on a low metabolism you must keep up your heart rate at all times. Running for 30 minutes and having a 5 minutes break would suffice.
