Not really major news however Josh (Jeax) was arrested yesterday and is now on bail, sulake arrested him under Section 3 of computer misuse act photo below:

Bit silly for Sulake to take it that far, fair enough but im sure he didn't do that much damage.

he wont get jail for that offence.
he could, im not sure but i quickly googled CMA and i read 5 years maximum or something.
and good, serves him right. hackers should know better
A person guilty of an offence under this section shall be liable—
(a)on summary conviction, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or to a fine not exceeding the statutory maximum or to both; and
(b)on conviction on indictment, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years or to a fine or to both.
he'll probs just get a daft fine, unless sulake want to be picky and go for damages .

These comments are not against you Dave, they are general points.
Sulake can't arrest Jeax, nor can they impose a criminal sentence upon him. Semantics matter. And the exact offence is "unauthorised modification of the contents of any computer" (s.3(1)(a)) combined with the mens rea in s.3(1)(b). What classes as modification is addressed in s.3(2). Mens rea elements addressed in s.3(4) and s.3(5) are not really disputable.
I have nothing against Jeax in particular, and maybe Sulake are being heavy handed by requesting an action brought against him... but it's understandable on their part. You could then assume (if you are cynical) that Sulake wanted threads like this to be made, if we guess the reason by the action. Are you playing into their hands? ;)
Dan: it's a criminal case, numpty. Sulake can't ask for damages in an action they are not bringing.
(1) A person is guilty of an offence if—
(a) he does any act which causes an unauthorised modification of the contents of any computer; and
(b) at the time when he does the act he has the requisite intent and the requisite knowledge.
(2) For the purposes of subsection (1)(b) above the requisite intent is an intent to cause a modification of the contents of any computer and by so doing—
(a) to impair the operation of any computer;
(b) to prevent or hinder access to any program or data held in any computer; or
(c) to impair the operation of any such program or the reliability of any such data.
(3) The intent need not be directed at—
(a) any particular computer;
(b) any particular program or data or a program or data of any particular kind; or
(c) any particular modification or a modification of any particular kind.
(4) For the purposes of subsection (1)(b) above the requisite knowledge is knowledge that any modification he intends to cause is unauthorised.
(5) It is immaterial for the purposes of this section whether an unauthorised modification or any intended effect of it of a kind mentioned in subsection (2) above is, or is intended to be, permanent or merely temporary.
(6) For the purposes of the M2Criminal Damage Act 1971 a modification of the contents of a computer shall not be regarded as damaging any computer or computer storage medium unless its effect on that computer or computer storage medium impairs its physical condition.
(7) A person guilty of an offence under this section shall be liable—
(a) on summary conviction, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or to a fine not exceeding the statutory maximum or to both; and
(b) on conviction on indictment, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years or to a fine or to both.
You can actually get a longer sentence for hacking than for murder :P
He seemed a bit shakey upon the taken the photo, maybe he should have calmed down first :P

Not under the Computer Misuse Act 1990 (as amended) you can't. Murder uses the life sentence tariff system. The maximum available under the CMA is 5 years and a fine.

Okay, so it's possible that they initiated the action, especially given that the case involves a young person... but unlikely. I'm not too hot on procedural stuff, other than what Sue said. I don't fancy taking it as a module next year either. *Yawn*

To your first point, I totally agree! I made a comment earlier in the thread about this exposure being almost hoped for by Sulake. If this Jeax had not shared this with others, it would have no effect as a deterrent. As it stands, it plays well to strengthen Sulake's stance on the matter.
To your second point: it is unnecessary. By pursuing one or two more high-profile ventures and hoping that word is spread, they have the bonus of a very effective deterrent.
that jeax guy is really cool

Nobody said he will get raped (well maybe they did..) and put yourself in Sulakes shoes.. A kid scripts/hacks, takes over a few habbos.. The habbo thinks "oh ****, i lost it all, i will quit now" Sulake lose $$$...
Or, sue the people who makes Sulake lose money, which in the long run will most likely bring in more dollars..

Or of course the scottish computer techi whom hacked several US government servers including nasa's and pentagons. He's trying to stop action for himself getting extradited to the US and serve his time in the UK, if there's any to serve. (which there will be).
And Sulake are doing this because of all the money it's costing them. You think of their costs, there's their added security, sorting the mess and of course all the updates they bring out to cover their security mistakes.
They want to send a message out to others, or so it seems. They've probably picked this guy for a reason, maybe they know he might be well connected or they know it'll get around?

Dave Taylor knows because he told alot of his 'script' friends, also it was posted on a well known scripting site.
Sulake completely and utterly detested Josh for a long, long time. He inspired many original users to enter into Scripting Communities, such as Otaku-Studios, the home of Private Server Development, SnG and SoM. This inspiration led to trust, and his tools were being used on hotels all over the world. His very own Scripting Tool, Axed, succeeded in a massive breakthrough. This was kbown as the August Raids. The main exploits were Erroring, Furniture Description Editting and BOT features.
This obviously placed Suelake (my bad, Sulake) into a big, stressful situation. They were in positions where they even had to change to a method, which resulted in a Dynamic Encryption. Then, the struggle for the creators of Scripting Tools finally came. When they cracked the encryption and released the tools, a few minutes later and the Encryption had changed. Most gave up, others used most other useless Scripts that weren't patched.
And suddenly, on Thursday 12th February, everything changed. Out of the blue, the feds raided Josh's house. Josh was found on his computer, using a private IRC Network that only himself, Myrax and another unknown user were using. All of the logs were on there, and Dom (Myrax, who is a very close friend) was now also vulnerable to the feds. Dom was told at a local bus station by an officer that the feds were searching for him. Use iMyrax.co.uk or Shoelake.co.uk for more information on Doms situation, and use JeaxArmy.co.uk for more on Josh.
Thanks.

Are those names meant to be significant in any way? And I heavily doubted Sulake "completely and utterly detested Josh for a long, long time". Seriously, a successful business will hardly have had top-level meetings over someone who will only be known by a few members within Sulake... and even then moreso as someone they want to make an example of, as opposed to someone who causes them great threat.
This inspiration led to trust, and his tools were being used on hotels all over the world. His very own Scripting Tool, Axed, succeeded in a massive breakthrough. This was kbown as the August Raids. The main exploits were Erroring, Furniture Description Editting and BOT features.
Inspiration and trust? Loaded language, much? What on earth are you talking about? Oh right... yeah, massive breakthrough. Veeeeeery well known as "August Raids", totally...
Get some English lessons, kiddo.

Most gave up, others used most other useless Scripts that weren't patched.
Two things here. 1) You have evidence to support your claims that the actions of a meddlesome individual placed Sulake in "a big, stressful situation"? 2) Brush up on that English, or whatever variant you are using.
And suddenly, on Thursday 12th February, everything changed. Out of the blue, the feds raided Josh's house. You really are clueless, aren't you? We don't have "feds", Sherlock. Feds is a slang term for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Y'know... over here we just have police. Go and hide in whatever hole you crawled out of.
Perfectly acceptable move by Sulake and the police. Such a move has been imminent, and some people don't jump ship early enough.
