View Full Version : Do you purchase your music?

Do you buy your music from iTunes or Tesco.com and other sites or do you download it illegally?

I've nearly always been called stupid for buying my music off iTunes (Just bought a £25 voucher 10 minutes ago :P) but I think its right. I used to use LimeWire, but I've deleted anything that had music from that on it.

So, legal or illegal?

Jaysun

I want to buy them legally but I just don't.

well, i buy albums (like "Now") which usually has all the songs i want to listen to on anyway, but songs i find are not on anything like that, i limewire them.

So, yes and no.
You need multichoice on poll <:{

Sometimes I'll go out and hear a song I really like and then find it really hard to find so just use up some itunes credits I have around...

No, simply because it costs too much. I have done when I've had the money, but I would say most teens couldn't afford to buy music. I know most at my school don't.

Really... Who in this day and age with economic crisis and what not, can afford to buy music :(

I certainly know I can't, but then again, I just don't download music anymore...

I have better things to spend my money on that iTunes, that is when I actually have money... I torrent my albums and LimeWire individual songs.

The point of it is that, you're helping in the top 40 charts, you're helping the artists to produce more music and you're not getting yourself in trouble :P

Yes. I've recently started buying my music legally. This was partly due to me not being able to download it and that you sometimes get bad copies when you do. It's so much better getting the songs from Itunes, like I do, because you can search for whatever you like, see how much popularity the song has, and it's reviews etc. It's good :)!

Illegally. Even if I did have the money it would probably be less effort to obtain illegally as I only do full albums. No willy nilly tacks on their own for me.

I do a mixture.
If I need a song because people keep requesting it when I DJ and I don't like it, I'll get someone to send it to me (after they've downloaded it from limewire)
But if I genuinly like the song/album then I'll go to the shop and buy it, so Im helping with the top 40 =]

Nope, never bought a song in my life. I'm not really that into music so buying it with money would seem a bit of a waste to me, I just like it on in the background.

Charlie
15-02-2009, 11:57 AM
I do both. Everytime I go town I take money and come back with an album or two because I still like listening to music on my CD player but if I'm skint or I can't get out to buy the album or it isn't released in the UK yet, I'll download it.

If I like the artist I'll buy their albums but if I want to experiment a little and try other artists I'll torrent them to see how good they are.

For odd songs I always use iTunes however I still don't like iTunes as although with 'iTunes Plus' it's no longer DRM, it's still in the same crap AAC format. Why can't they just use MP3s fgs.

When have apple ever done anything remotely user friendly? If you want to use their stuff you have to live in their universe and accept their rules. Shame they can't take the open source approach of "here's some stuff, make it better and distribute it for us, we'll love you forever xxx"

Seems to be all take and no give.

I buy all my music. Used to from iTunes, but now from Nokia Store, simply because its compatible with my phone.

Its a pin though, coz I want to become a DJ, but have a huge lack of music atm, and can't afford to buy loads more. So it would be easier if I downloaded it illegally, but I just wont.

i would rather leave me computer on overnight to seed & leech rather than go to the store and get an album.

and there is no itunes store for my country, but i do use itunes and acc files > mp3.

AAC isn't much better on a quality to file size ratio either though. I like to get most of my mp3s at 320Kbps to try and eliminate some compression, but keep optimum compatibility.

Well I buy my music from iTunes and the DRM-Free music will work on any MP3 player now really. It works on my Nokia N95 (m4a) whereas the DRM one (.m4p) won't.

about half and half. i probably have 100 or so cds. cds are so overpriced anyway, i gave the record companies more than they deserve as it is. it costs 40 cents to make a cd, no reason they have to be 15 bucks lol. ill never buy an album from itunes, as i think thats completely stupid. why would you buy an album on itunes if you can get the physical copy for the same exact price? it makes no sense to me. and i never buy individual songs, i always buy full albums. ive never understood how people can have just one or two songs from an album and not the entire thing lol. i would go insane.

sometimes if i download an album and i end up really liking it, i'll buy the physical copy.

Buying an album is stupid, buying an album from iTunes is very stupid because they take so much money the artist ends up getting nothing, if you really want to support them, just go to their concerts and what not.

I buy most of my songs if iTunes.
Although I do download some of other places because of the simple fact iTunes dont have them otherwise I would buy them of their.

GommeInc
15-02-2009, 11:40 PM
I legally download them all the time now, but in the past I have downloaded songs from LimeWire and other places. I'd only download illegally if a song I want doesn't exist in any place I can buy it, ignoring iTunes which usually does have them, but I hate it :P

I buy music legally - people who say "it's too expensive" are just making excuses for breaking the law. I would love to buy loads of new 360 games, but I can't afford to after paying bills, insurance, etc. I don't then just steal them, I save up, prioritize, and maybe don't buy as many.

Frankly, I think stealing music is very low.

I'll download songs which i know i cant buy, such as small bands not yet fully known and dont have cd's out ect.

But main bands i'll buy from itunes if i have the money too. Its much cheaper then it used to be to buy songs now too so thats a bonus ;D
