Microsoft
Not really a phone from Microsoft but Windows Mobile 6.5 has been leaked onto YouTube, it's due to be announced later on this Mobile World Congress. Here is the vid (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAq5lFQFyMI)

Palm
I left this one out by accident but the Palm Pre, launched at this years CES has had it's first official sneak peek video and it can be found here (http://www.palm.com/us/products/phones/pre/index.html#video)
The palm pre has already called controversy with the law suits between Apple and Palm, but already the pre is due to be phone of the year 2009, snatching the top spot from Apple's legendary iPhone

I'll try update as soon as the new phones are chucked out of Barcelona, but I can't promise anything.

T3/The Alloy
No not a huge manufacturer of Mobile phones, but a Technology magazine taking along a prototype of a phone they designed way back in 2008 and fooled people into thinking it was real. However our dreams were dashed and the phone, codenamed The 01, was announced as a fake idealistic phone.
This Mobile World Congress however T3 and the Alloy will be taking a long a prototype of the new phone which can be found here (http://www.t3.com/news/01-phone-video-and-photos-of-the-t3-designed-mobile?=37852)
It really is a dream phone, and will probably be a show stopped once unveiled at this years MWC, I honestly can't wait.

Good post, I'm quite looking forward to it this year (More so than the crappy CES which had hardly any decent announcements).

Windows Mobile 6.5 is looking incredibly good.

Combination of the Zune interface with a good Touch screen interface.

http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/11/11-12-08winmo65c.jpg

Hopefully some Android announcements too, in terms of Hardware and Software.

Motorola are gearing up a Android Handset, so it can only be good news for the Android OS.

And yeah I'm loving Windows Mobile 6.5, shame Zune never came to the UK so this could be the first time for some people in the UK to see the Zune UI.

I thought CES was deemed as okay this year, with 3D Technology really taking the limelight, and the Pre is good news, so CES wasn't that bad.

One awful Tech event this year has to be MacWorld, no Steve Jobs, and awful announcements, apart from DRM free iTunes :D

My friend helped set up last years Mobile World Congress :P He met Graham Norton back stage and has aload of LG posters and cut outs in his bedroom.

It sounds like it's going to be an interesting year for the mobile world :)

Mainly from Android I'm guessing, but then again Symbian is throwing out all the good handsets at the moment, Android needs to pick its pace up, it's such a good Mobile OS.

The newest arrival in this certain sector is - Acer.

Acer have unveiled, not one, but four phones, and they are real iPhone competitors. Acer call the quartet, the Tempo.

The watchphone buzz is really undeserved imo, the only thing its good for is having a bluetooth headset and not having to carry around a phone. The screen is just too small to use for anything else phone-like and you'll have to charge your watch every few days which will be a pain. I hope its really cheap or it'll be overpriced.

Liking Acer's stuff, hope its decent.

WM 6.5 to come out soonish please, it would make me literally fall in love with and marry my omnia (which I like a fair it already).

Thanks to Engadget (http://www.engadget.com/2009/02/16/mwc-day-one-the-empire-strikes-back/) for the Day one roundup :

http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/02/2-16-09roundup.jpg
We know, there was an absolute flood of news from Mobile World Congress today, but day one in Spain has finally come to a close, and it looks like Microsoft is flexing all its muscle to try and lock up partners and rejoin the fight for mobile dominance. Seriously, this is Redmond's show: we haven't seen a new, non-prototype Android handset powered up yet, and that's frankly astonishing and somewhat disappointing. What else did we learn?

As expected, Windows Mobile 6.5 brings some much-needed interface enhancements to the table along with the Windows Marketplace app store and My Phone syncing, but some longstanding issues remain -- the biggest one being that it still doesn't support capacitive touchscreens. We spent some time with it, and while we're impressed with the new lock screen, honeycomb app launcher, and browser, it's obviously just a paint job -- it's still kinda laggy and the media features haven't been changed at all.
The Palm Pre is going to have full Flash support. So will Windows Mobile, S60, and Android, according to Adobe. BlackBerry and iPhone users are still out in the cold.
HTC launched the Touch Pro2 and the Touch Diamond2, which are super-evolutionary in the best possible way. Both are incredibly slick and well built, feature some nifty new calling features and UI tweaks, and will be upgraded to WM 6.5 for free when the time comes.
The hardware highlight of the show so far has to be the Samsung OmniaHD, which can capture and play back 720p video. S60, 3.7-inch AMOLED screen, yeah yeah -- it's a phone with freaking HDMI out. What more do you need to know?
Huawei had the only new Android handset we've seen on display. Only it wasn't so much a "handset" as a "non-working hunk of plastic." It'd be cool if it was real, but it's obvious to us that Microsoft wanted this to be its party, and those kids from Googletown weren't invited.
LG launched the Arena KM900 featurephone and the GM730 WinMo phone, both with variants of the S-Class UI. We'd be interested if the GM730 ran it as well as the Arena, but it doesn't. Way more intriguing: the GD900, which sports a super-cool transparent keypad.
LG also made a splash by announcing a deep partnership with Microsoft: WinMo is is going to be LG's "preferred" smartphone OS, and it's committed to launching an incredible 50 Windows Mobile devices through 2012. See what we mean by Microsoft's party?
Nokia forgot to launch the 8.1 megapixel N86 at MWC, instead unveiling it in Singapore. Hey guys, we're all in Spain -- you know, where the E55 and E75 launched?
Acer came to this gunfight with a spoon, launching four me-too WinMo 6.1 phones -- two of which most likely can't be upgraded to 6.5. We wouldn't take 'em if they were free.
Sony Ericsson showed off a vapor-y Symbian Foundation phone with a 12.1 megapixel camera codenamed the Idou. It's pronounced E-Do, and by the time you'll be able to buy one we don't think you'll be interested anymore.
Garmin-Asus let us play with the Linux-based nuvifone G60 and WinMo-based nuvifone M20. They're slick and have solid GPS features, as you'd expect. But why did they make us shoot the demo in a moving car?
There might be a HTC G2 called the "Magic," and it might be coming to Vodafone. There might also be an Android-powered LG KS360. There might also be no chance in hell these two are at MWC.
We spotted a GSM Palm Pre with a Vodafone SIM card, which could mean everything or nothing. But it exists!

Whoa, those are just the highlights -- you can check out everything that went down right here. We're hoping the rest of the week brings some crazy Android news, but we're not holding our breath -- Microsoft wanted to make a statement here in Barcelona, and after day one, we'd have to say it succeeded. Keep it locked, we'll be back tomorrow!

Day 2 - Surprising - Roundup by Engadget

If day one of MWC was dominated by Windows Mobile, day two went to Android -- although most of the announcements were vague and Toshiba's Snapdragon-based TG01 did much to impress. Obviously the big announcement was the HTC Magic (née the G2), which'll be coming to Vodafone UK in April, but several other manufacturers committed to building Googlephones as well. What else did we learn?

We went hands-on with the Magic and Android's Cupcake update and found it to be pretty great, although the lack of a 3.5mm headphone jack and US 3G bands didn't exactly pull at our heartstrings.
The Toshiba TG01 got our blood racing, though -- the stripes interface is actually super-slick on the huge screen, and Snapdragon's fast as hell.
ATT Mobility CEO Ralph de la Vega said Dell's building a smartphone. Then he took it back.
We got to play with a few Tegra prototypes, one of which was running Android and the other doing 1080p video. It was all very impressive, but we didn't see any working phones with the chipset, and that's the only way into our jaded hearts.
The GSM Association decided to standardize on microUSB chargers and set a target date of 2012 for it to happen. They could have been 90% there if they'd just gone with miniUSB. Sigh.
Samsung will be building "more than three" Android phones in 2009, as well as a LiMo Foundation Linux phone. Of course, this is also what Sammy said last year at MWC, and with no hardware to show, it's just vapor for now.
Acer wrote us a secret Android love note with a promise of two phones this year. We checked "maybe" when they asked us if we liked them.
We also checked out Acer's boring Tempo WinMo 6.1 phones that look like they're running Microsoft Bob and its maybe not-so-boring other phones that weren't powered on.
LG promised an Android set by June (we're guessing the KS360) with at least two more by the end of the year. We also learned that Orange customers will be the first unfortunate lucky enough to buy the G910 Watch Phone and spent some time with the S60-based KT770.
We got to play with the OmniaHD's 720p video camera. There were some framerate issues, but if they get sorted out by launch like we hope this thing'll be a beast.
We also spent some time with the other big S60 launch at MWC, the Nokia N86 -- it has an amazing OLED screen and solid camera, but the form factor is wearing thin, and that T9 keypad just isn't enough.
Everyone's getting in on the WinMo skinning game, including Gigabyte, whose Smart Zone interface on the S1200 wasn't half-bad.
Hyundai decided that the next step in phone form factors are the watch, the pocket calculator, and the 4G iPod. Note to Apple fanboys: aren't you happy all those mockups were just that?

Yep, those are the bigs -- check out our full MWC 2009 coverage for all everything else that went down. Overall, today seemed to be distinctly more Android-focused, but we're dismayed at the lack of actual devices shown running Google's OS -- mostly we just got a lot of nonspecific promises. We'll see if we can squeeze some dates and specs from people tomorrow, keep it locked!

I'll update Day 3 when I get back :D <3

Mobile World Congress has officially finished :D

And the handsets launched, some were amazing, some not. But still we get that every year from MWC.

We've had a few leaks and mess-ups, mostly from Google when they were showing off the new G-Mail feature on Android and iPhone, they showed what looked to be a new HTC device different to the G1 and the Magic, could it be the G2?

The 01 phones features are superior to your iPhone, and they are currently discussing mulitOS so you'll be able to get Symbian, Win Mo and Symbian :D

I was at the Apple launch of the iPhone back in Macworld 2007, and tbh, it was amazing, but Steve Jobs didn't really hint that it was gonna get any better, and tbh Apple probably won't have a new handset coming out in the next year. Apple don't have any massively big announcements coming up, the biggest announcement is probably going to be new iMac. But they've pulled their Keynotes from MacWorld, Steve Jobs is away, so Apple really isn't going to be doing much until he's back.

Well you obviously don't do your research.

At what time of the year do Apple announce their new handsets? - 9th June, as they have done with previous releases of the iPhones.

And Steve job doesn't invent all of Apple stuff and create it all by hand all by himself - you know, your so in denial.

And if you want 'Features' beat this - AppStore: 10,000 features all in one.

I don't think you can topple that - I also think the statistics speak for themselves, it is currently the most popular smartphone in the USA with around 50% of it's iPhones taking up the market. Which probably means it's the most popular smartphone in world...

Sorry - It won't be beaten.

The iPhone was originally announced in January 2007, and Steve Jobs is the glue that holds Apple together, without him they would fail (says many analysts). The announcement of Steve Jobs going off sick made Apple's stocks fall in price rapidly.
Steve Jobs is also listed as an inventor on many of Apple's products, such as the iPhone's multi-touch tool.

The iPhone is now a standard but it's still sporting yesterdays technology, a 2 megapixel camera is superior to a 12?

The iPhone is an amazing phone and I have one, but I wouldn't quite say that it will stay top forever.

Who uses a phone for their "12 MegaPixel Camera"

Pointless much.

Also the iPhones camera is actually quite good for 2MP, really do miss the flash-ability though.

The iPhone is trying to bring everything into 1 device, the Sony Ericsson Idou brings a digital camera to that list of devices you will no longer need.

I'm not going to argue, the iPhone is an amazing phone and is now the industry standard, but it'll not remain that way.

I love people that try to act e-hard.

"Man the iphone will K0 that phone!1!1!!1!11!".

Get a grip on your posts before continuing to respond in such a pathetic manor, not everything thats not "apple" is a four star word.

Anyway I must admit I'm on the lookout for a decent android phone, really starting to grow on me.

edit// that was insulting his posts and not another forum member.

It's called sarcasm, internet talk, it's not e-hard; get a sense of humour, no one else had a problem with what I said, not even the person who I was in direct conversation with, so why give your two pennies worth?

Because its not needed to keep calling things names that get filtered. Its easier to discuss in a mature manor.

Implement

If you're trying to say I'm avoiding the filter, please, quote what I have said which has done this...

I don't need to come up to your standards, I've done nothing wrong to you, and vice versa.

I do what I want within the forum rules, not within your rules.

if you took the time to read, I was saying that you don't need to insult products with swear words, the ones that are getting filtered/you are implying.

Why should you moan about it? :S

This will be my last response as I don't want to get the thread closed. I am saying that its an "e-hard" manorism to insult products with swear words when you could have said something like:

"Doesn't look that good to me, slightly ugly don't you think?"

compared to your:

"Wow that is one **** phone"

Anyway, sorry to the thread creator for effectivly spamming your thread with imbisolic arguements.
