Do you think the next thing is you will need a licence to own a domain or website itself ?

I'm sure the laws regarding online radio's have been around for a while they just haven't enforced it on the minorities. As for the needing a license to own a domain, for many country domains just as .com.au you need a business number in the case of .com.au it's an ABN (Australian Business Number) so there already is restrictions on certain domains. People have a heavy misconception of internet radio. For as long as I can remember you have to be licenesed to broadcast any type of copyrighted material, which is where places like PPL come in. Internet radio is only slightly different from normal mainstream radio, in the fact you don't have to own a broadcast license (the thing that sets the rules of what frequency you broadcast on , the amount of "dead" air space you are allowed etc...). Normal radio's have to pay royalties and so do internet radios, they always have had too just habbo stations don't count as huge offenders (from the point of view they are normally non-profit).

In respect to the rest of the thread, yes I believe governments are starting to police the internet a bit too much. Its just something we all have to live with.

Yep, anything which comes from/to you from your ISP they can monitor.

The only way to prevent them is by encrypting them.

Well if you are discussing normal stuff in your MSN convos, why worry? They wont watch every person at every time and they cant go into there without a reason (e.g you are a suspected terrorist).

As for internet radios, you can still host your own music or a talk show on there. If you made a song and you copyrighted it, would you be happy about people streaming your music for free?

MSN conversations are stored on Microsoft's servers how however many years, you cant encrypt the information being sent to them can you?

If you use adium to talk to another msn contact an adium then you can enable encryption.
