Short and sweet

Could downloads replace hard-copy games as a whole?

I don't fancy downloading GTA IV to a 360 HDD, but maybe when HDDs are bigger...

I'd prefer having an actual copy of it :P

There was that Phantom console that was going to have that and it just never happened. Suppose Steam has been the leader in this actually becoming a widely used way of getting games.

I'd prefer to have a physical copy though.

It's only good if a game you want in-store is out of stock. Then that's the only reason they should release this feature, but it's fine as it is :P

I really can't see a world when digital replaces physical, as awesome as it is in ways I would prefer saving harddrive space than the space in my room for a tiny little box. xD

I don't think it can fully happen, but it will grow. I enjoy having the box in my hand so i'd quite like it not to happen!

I think it will happen eventually, look at the success of Steam

With the internet speed increases, bigger hard drives and unlimited downloads, its going to get very popular. Not to mention the money you save.

Ever since i found steam, i havent bought any hard copy games.

I prefer having the physical copy so if I don't like it I can trade it in.

I prefer things like steam, if you loose the disc your pretty much bummed, but on steam you cant loose it, its tied to your account i love it

Thing is disks can be bought cheaper and a little earlier than digial downloads, never losing a game would be an upside if you actually manage to lose games but you wont be able to borrow a friends game or lend them out and if you lose access to your account that could be £100+ worth of games gone quite easily.

Good point, but that wouldn't be the problem because Xboxes and generally computers save your accounts. Lending out games could also turn into something like the Guess Passes on TF2, you can give them a pass to the game you're playing for 2 days and see how they like it.

I like having a case and everything but there is a point where if it was cheap enough I'd choose the digital option.
Like warhawk was £19.99 digital and £34.99 for an actual copy (Because of the jabber headset I didn't really care for), so I just bought the digital.

So if games were £19.99 download then I'd go that route. I can't see it though personally :p
