Chat Room - No Use?

I have been wondering about this for a while. Maybe you should remove your chat room on the forum because it is basically uninhabitable, very rarely do people actually use it. All it does is waste a while big space at the bottom of the forum, and annoys me a bit.

If you really want chat, you can have a chat box activated once a week at peak times or something with moderators so people can have a chat (or even daily if you get mods etc.) This may not be realistic. On the other hand, it will also be popular, as it's easy to use.

However, one way or another that chat room at the bottom has to go in my view.

If you go into user cp and options you can turn it off so you do not see it at the bottom of the forum.

The idea of having it open at certain times is pretty interestng. Maybe people might use it more if they feel they only have a certain time to use it and they know other people will be on at that time... hmm

I agree that I think it would be better used as a 'Live Help' box, rather than as a Chat Room, but it's not like it's hurting anyone by being there...

The chat was kinda a pointless buy, and as far as I remember it was a one off purchase, so they may aswell use it if they aren't going to have to any monthly/yearly fees. Would having it open only during certain times of the day actually work? That's like having a mini-fridge (chat box) open during certain hours in an office, when they could just use the bigger fridge with an ice maker aswell (which is the forum) - in other words, why limit the use of something when its not being used anyway :P

It just needs better advertising, but that's been suggested too many times already, so there probably is no hope for it.

Well obviously the Chat section isn't as pertinent as we'd like it to be, but that doesn't mean that it will remain unused. We can try to occasionally use it for special events like meet the management because it can be difficult to connect with all members and obviously management has not been doing it as much as we'd like to.

It's been paid for. Everybody knows it's crap and not used very often but it's there and it does no harm in staying there for when it's used once every month or so.

Yeah, it's been paid for now so we can't get anything back from it. It may get used more in the future, for example H0BJ0B did some competitions usuing it which made it popular for a week or so :)
