Hey Guys,
Ive been surfing the Governments Statistics website and was astonished to see Chinese & Indian ethnic groups having the highest % of GCSE Pass-Rates and highest rate of Employment within Managerial & Professional occupations! Why is this? While I saw Pakistani & Bangladeshi rates far futher down within Education & Employment, but they had the highest rate of self-employment where they work for themselves. Why is this, Pakistanis & Bangladeshis were Indians about 62 Years ago, so shouldnt they have the same high rates has Indians?

Becuase it's genetic. Pakistanis don't go to school they open corner shops hence being self-employed.

I think theres a completely different culture and work ethic with these ethnic groups. Or because there parents are paying crap loads for them to study here.

Im british indian but they do generally seem to be better. Guess its dicipline as indian parents care about their childrens education.
Some white parents dont care and allow children to skive school.
Because we take education here for granted, we just think its torture, but other countries which may not have the opportunity like we do, don't :)

my best guess would be that chinese and indian students would come into a school and not be as able to make as good friends with people as others and wouldnt have to deal with peer pressure and stuff because their not really in a gang,
so they would be less likely to be involved in going out and doing drugs and shiz and have more time to study,

Dont take education for granted etc.
Lol at the comments sayin the dnt make a good friends! Bit harsh!
Well I'm Indian and I'm no where near the best in my class.
I think it's because most Indian & Chinese parents want their kids to do well at school, while other parents might not mind as much how their children do at school.
We try hard and dont slack that much so thats why we rock. :8
You're as thick as **** though, you're a let down for your race.

Because they actually want to work. Many are immigrated here and so have the mindset to work hard.

im in top set for every class, get out slacker!
Just has to do with the parents disciplining their children more.

In my opinion it's because they don't take their education for granted and waste it. A lot of British people think everything should be handed to them on a plate including their qualifications. :eusa_danc

It must have a lot to do with parenting and the fact they actually have the desire to do well whereas many other ethnic groups don't.

exactly. even poor africans who get a chance to go to the united states to get an education do substantially better than most americans because they take an education as a glorious opportunity. we've grown up thinking an education is something everyone gets. but education is (or used to be) scarce in china, india, and other countries. parents make sure if their kids get an opportunity to get an education, they're going to work their butts off.

Yeah, that's the sad truth. I think most of western children are guilty of it though, nobody really looks forward to school every single day. Once you realise and it's put into perspective you remember just how lucky you are you're getting a decent education, free of charge.
They are self-employed because they either run their own indian or chinese restaurants....... or minicab services.
You think im joking.

Bare in mind though that a lot of the students they send over here are their most intelligent one's. Most Indian's & Chinese students in the UK excel over here or do just average, in their own countries though they'd be genius's so they're sent over here.
This isn't always the case though.

It's in our Asian genes tbh. ;)
On a more serious note, I believe it has to do with upbringing.
Here in Singapore, everyone gets an equal opportunity to learn. I believe all of us can excel well in our studies, simply because we have been told from young that, without education, you cannot be successful in life.
Our parents put much emphasis on the importance of education. We can accept that because we know that the working world is a very competitive one and will continue to become even more competitive for our generation.

This is true - I think they generally work harder.
Maybe religion has an effect aswell. Religions in the eastern world are slightly more strict, creating discipline. I think this is a good thing - People are encouraged to work harder according to the way they were brought up.

It's all down to parents. Especially if your parents have just come over. They know how hard and not cheap education is back in the homeland.
Same goes for the grandparents. they did the same to the parents :)

Yeah same here..
But a few English students are smart...
Our college have loads of chinese students and they're quite smart.
If you see documentaries feturing chinese students in school i think you'll find that they both want to go and throughly enjoy school.
They both work very hard.

pushy parents
Pushy parents, they want their children to do well. Also it depends on whether we are talking about statistically british national ethnic groups.
A lot of international university students are Indian or Chinese and if they are paying 10k for their tuition fees from their own bank accounts (no loans) I am certain they will be making more of an effort to study.
