K, so basically i went abroad for the first time yesterday with my school for to the somme (history trip).
Soooo i woke up at 4am, got ready n all that jazz and we left school at 5:30 am. Had a 6 hour drive which involved like a film and a load of sleeping, so that was fun. Then we got there, went to loads of different places like cemeteries and the trenches etc. One guy found one of the knives they used in the ground, that was cool.
Then one our last stop we went to this huge memorial with all the names of everyone who died and there was a cemetery there too. Then one of our guides read a letter from someone to his mum and dad, when he was in the army who's in the iraq war and it was basically about all the things he wanted when he came home (sex, a bed, watch tv for a week etc.). But then he read us another letter, which began with "If you're reading this, then you probaly know im not coming home.." and our guide started to get tears in his eyes and his lip started shaking. And that was just really sad since it was son who died in the war.
Loads of girls were crying and the whole mood just went like really sad kinda thing, then we went inside and saw all the names. Then we like put down our own kind of memorial from the school inside and read a poem, then had a minute silence. As we walked out the mood was all like... i dont know cant really describe it but it was.. wow yeh, and the sun was setting aswell so the sky had gone all pink and it was nice.
So then we started travelling back home, another 6 hours on the coach (wahey). Then when i get home, i get some even more sad news, my sister's friend had committed suicide at his home in uni, and his friends (her boyfriend infact) found him in his shower. I'd met the guy once aswell and he was like really polite, and thinking of him killing himself was just really sad. Then my sister got even more bad news when she found out her house that she shared with her friends had been burgled, so i felt sorry for her even more.
So it was a good and a bad day.
