I need a new pen drive since my old one just bent at the connector. I need it to be about 16GB and the cheapest I've found is one for about £23. Just wondering if this is a good deal and if anyone knows of any better deals.

The one for £23;

Is USB 2.0 though. Just wondering how fast I'll be likely to transfer files with both cause I plan to be transfering a lot.

Virtually all USB devices you buy nowadays will be USB 2.0. It's not so much a selling point now; rather it is taken for granted.

That £23 one is just a cheap generic one which most companies use with their own branding. Look again at Play.com - some of the better prices are on there.

Look in the new argos discount catalogue, they're selling a 16GB one for £24.99 - and an 8GB for £12.99.

Get the one Barmi suggested. I have this one http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/5722174/SanDisk-Cruzer-Micro-USB-Flash-Drive-8GB/Product.html and I get around 30MB/s sustained read and about 10MB/s sustained write when transferring files, so i'd assume the other one would be the same.

I would recommend looking in your local Staples or PC World store.

Slightly off topic. Just bought the play.com brand 16gb. Thank you. :)

why would you buy the play.com brand when the san disk is far better and is also cheaper?

it has preinstalled software and that faffy looking slidey bit. I don't see why you should comment on my choices, considering I have my own reasons for purchasing an item. I was just expressing my thanks to the people in this thread who led me to it.

Edit: I also happen to like the colour blue.

The U3 software can be removed.

True, but I'm lazy ;)

Actually, the moment you plug it in it asks if you want to install, so you just click... No. I was just commenting that it doesn't make logical sense since San disk is one of the best memory sticks..

Still has the faffy slidey bit. And they're all the same board inside anyway.

Tbh, the slidey bit is no different to pullting the lid off. And the difference would be in both the way it's built and possibly speed

Lids can get lost I suppose. And to bring out my pedantic correctiveness, Memory Stick is a trademark owned by Sony for the cards used in their cameras, phones, psps etc. They can be called all manner of bountiful things :D

I have a play.com brand one and as far as I know its fine, there are probably better ones but for the price you really can't complain :)
