Well I was installing something last night, and I got to the last disk and realised that I had lost the disk.

So I downloaded a copy of the disk so that I could complete the installation.

But because my ISP aren't Internet Service Providers, they're Internet Service Police.

So they have been ********s and disabled our account.

So am I in the wrong, as I have already paid royalties for that software, and I am using the same serial key provided when I bought the product?

No, explain to them the situation. Demand your account is re-enabled and that they can check with the software company if the serial key you have entered is valid (eg. only issued once).

Yep, torrents and encrypted.
The file size was 800mb also, so they must have targeted me :'(

Yeah, lets put it this way - people should really password their wireless.

Karoo got someone fined £1m for downloading :l

What is the exact reason they've given for disabling your account?

No reason at all. Router said refused connection or something.

I then logged into the account area, and it said Account Disabled.

You then have to send a letter saying I will never do it again.. which we already have done (last time) :l

Just ring up and do it, say you lost the disk and that you can provide all the proof they want that you own the game.

Well if you used forced protocol encryption in your BitTorrent client then there is know way of them knowing the nature of the content you was downloading, only that you were using BitTorrent, so for all they know you were downloading a 700MB Live CD.

Jack,
Thank you for your email to the Internet Helpdesk.

Your account has been disabled because in the process of downloading
"Zoo Tycoon" via BitTorrent you have made this software available for
download by other users of BitTorrent software, which breaches copyright
and thus our AUP.
If you can complete the letter that you will receive in the post, and
send this back to us, your account can be re-enabled.

Should you require any further technical assistance, please don't
hesitate to get back in touch.

Best regards,
Mark

All because I wanted to set some lions on other animals :(

Oh, so the disabled it because I was uploading, not downloading.. So does that mean I can download stuff aslong as I don't seed it?

I didn't even use BitTorrent either :P

Well you must have used some BitTorrent software for them to identify you as using it lol. And if you're not going to seed you shouldn't be using BitTorrent.

Yeah, but I would class BitTorrent (http://www.bittorrent.com/btusers/download/) as the client/software :)

I used Azureus xD

BitTorrent is the name of the protocol. Azureus is the name of a client just like BitTorrent was the name of the 'official' client before they bought uTorrent.

I don't think you have done anything wrong :S, you get people that get hard drive failure and don't have a backup disk so they download the OS using a torrent but use there legal key they had before which is fine.

Its illegal to USE software illegally, seeing as you are using it legally I dont see what the problem is.

Their point is completly valid, they didn't suspend the account for download the game, but for continuing to seed it. You weren't downloading it illegally, but you may have been uploading it to someone who has not got a license... they were just protecting their own asses.

Just utorrent and encrypt out-going traffic (forced). Should be fine then.
