What does this do? I use a mac at home and for my DT I have to do work on A3, and the A3 printer is in school. Obviously mac stuff on word isn't compatible with the Windows ones in school, and they mess the documents up.. and there are no macs in school.. does saving a PDF keep it right so that I can print it as it is on this mac?

So long as the mac has Adobe Acrobat Reader thing then yes it should be fine ;)

As long as your school computers have a PDF reader (which they are virtually certain to), then saving as PDFs on your Mac to print off at school is perfectly fine.

Whenever I'm not printing straight from my MacBook but need to use a different computer, I will always save my Pages documents as a PDF so I can preserve my formatting and font use. I have a thing for Helvetica Neue in all its incarnations, and most PCs don't have this font.

Yeah it should, as long as your school has Adobe Reader which it probably does.
