Hello,

Ever since I unplugged and plugged back in the power cable of my Netgear DG series router, it keeps starting up and a few seconds later rebooting itself. This is rendering it completely useless. My BT Home Hub, however, works fine with the same cables plugged in (apart from the power cable) - but this does not have all my network printer settings, port forwarding settings etc. and will be a hassle to set up again.

Sorry, literally writing this post out has made me realise what must be wrong. I must have somehow, although very oddly as I have done it many times before, damaged the power cable by unplugging it. I searched my metre squared draw full of power cables/chargers/network cables etc. and dived in. I managed to find exactly the same charger/power cable as the router and replaced it. It now works perfectly as it should.

I'm still posting this because it may help anyone with this problem in future. All you need is a new charger/power cable thing.

Can't edit - a little googling shows this a common and strange problem with the DG series (most used nowadays) - you have been warned. :P

You say that the BT home hub works fine with the same cables, are these the cables supplied with the home hub or netgear router? I remember trying a cable for the netgear one which wasn't supplied with it and it had the exact same problem. Could be that, good luck :)

As I explained, the only cable difference was the power one... and that was the issue.

Looking this up, for the DG series, the power cable/charger device that you plug into the mains wasn't specially built for the netgear router and other people have had this problem. Switching it to another cable/charger that I have that fits the netgear router resolved the issue.
