Best video format to get my videos to play in powerpoint at school?

My school has a rubbish network and I've tried wmv (v9) format and mp4.

Now I'm going to try wmv (v7) format, but if that doesn't work.. what will.

It's an XP network, very basic.

Nope, this is for A-Level Physics.
I need to do a presentation & I want to include a couple videos.
