I Need A Wireless Repeater/Range Extender

I need a wireless repeater that will work with a Dlink DI-524.
I've got quite a big house so there are quite a few dead spots. One being where my PS3 is. It works from time to time, but most of the time I have a signal strength of around 15%:@

So yeah, if anyone knows which repeaters/range extenders will work for me, please post :)

The best way would be to move your router to a central position in the house or buy a more powerful router. Another way would be to connect another router via ethernet somewhere else in your house and set it up as an access point. I don't like repeaters.

whats the difference between a repeater and an access point? probably obvious but im useless with wireless :P

A repeater is a stand-alone device that you plug into the mains and then set it up to connect wirelessly to your router. It then forwards the signal. With an access point you would have to plug it into the mains and also connect it to your oricinal router with an ethernet cable. It's a better way of doing it though.

only thing is, i'll probably have trouble connecting it to my original router via ethernet.
arghh, it always has to be complicated :P
does using an ethernet cable really make it better? wont a repeater work too well?

Well, an access point would be cheaper to buy (but you'd have to buy a long ethernet cable as well) as you can buy a cheap DSL router and set it up as an access point. Wireless repeating devices can be used as either repeaters or access points but are a little more expensive. For a repeater your original router must also be compatible with repeating technology whereas with an access point you just need a spare ethernet port on your original router.

Fromm what i can tell it's only compatible with certain D-Link extenders, but 'm not sure as there's little information about it. It's a fairly old router anyway, so you may be better off getting a completely new router.

Well with newer devi9ces it's fine, but from the limited information i could find your router only works with specific D-Link repeaters.

I have no idea whether that would work or not. I'd say probably no however.

A new router would be what i recommend.

Have you considered a bigger antenna? Could be considerably cheaper than getting a range extender or a new router.

Any RP-SMA will connect to D-Link routers.
