iPod is not an acronym, so it doesn't 'stand for' anything. It is simply the product name Apple chose for its line of portable media players, to fit in alongside its other consumer-oriented products: iMac, iBook, iLife (iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD), iWork, etc.

The 'i' product line started with the iMac in 1998, which was originally intended to suggest 'internet Mac,' but the 'i' gradually evolved into a prefix which suggests a personal connection (as in I, me) to technology products.
